Default To flush or not to flush!!

I have determined that my tranny fluid is very dirty and I need to get it changed (4L60E)...I was wondering whether to get a tranny flush or just change the fluid and filter?? Anybody had problems after a tranny flush???

I had mine flushed out, absolutely no problems with it. I don't know how much it actually helps, but there was a special so it was only $10 more than the regular change so I had it done.

If you want all the old juice gone, you have to flush.
Otherwise you're stuck with whatever's in the TC,
cooler lines & trans body and only end up about 1/2 -
2/3 changed.

dont flush when you flush, all the stuff that is in or by the filter, gets sprayed up into the moving parts which defeats the purpose of the filter, it just blows all that crap it caught back into everything.. and most places dont take the filer and pan out when they do flush soo... and when i had mine redone the tranny shop said NO!!

Are you sure about that?

A trans flush usually consists of hooking up a trans flush machine, starting the car, and as the car is running the machine is "sucking" out the old fluid while pushing new fluid into the trans. The trans flush has the fluid going the same direction as normal operation. I just don't see how that sprays the garbage in the filter back into the trans, unless somehow the flow of ATF was reversed through the trans.

if your going to flush it, you might as well get it rebuilt or freshened up. because you will have to rebuild it a couple months after the flush.

If the fluid is very dirty you'll most likely be rebuilding in a few months after the flush. It's risky to even change the fluid in the pan and filter. I'd leave it alone until you had the $$$ for a rebuild assuming it still works as is right now.

If you've been keeping up with your trans maintenance and the fluid is just due for a change, I say go for the flush (and change the filter if the shop will do it as a combo... we do). If you've got high miles on your transmission and the oil is very dirty, just change the filter and pass on the flush. You would be risking dislodging some buildup and pushing it into the trans.

FWIW, I have flushed mine with good results. We also flush and average of 10-15 cars at the shop, and in the past year I have never had one come back.

Then how do you change the fluid? Just change the filter and the fluid that is in the pan?
