93 z28 with a built 700R4 trans and a new 3600 Revmax torque converter. I just put the new TC in and everything has been great. This noise is new, it wasn't making it after the TC install, I've put about 200 miles on since then and now it's happening.
When I'm slowing down or coasting to a stop and the car downshifts back into 1st, there is a noticable *clunk* sound and feeling that comes from underneath the car. I'm wondering if my u-joints could have gone bad, or does anyone know what this could be?

Cool I'll check it out. Would it typically be the rear or the front if it's loose?
Are the U-joints the same for front and rear? Like I could just order 2x of the same joint and be good? Or is front/rear specific? All the product descriptions I'm looking at are goofy..

Chasing down clunks and vibrations can be difficult that's for sure. I'm going to assume that you have a 700R4 in your car. With that transmission in the D3 position you might feel more of a downshift clunk. Reason being is that the over run clutch is applied in manual 3rd and will stay applied when coming to a stop in 2nd and 1st. Also if your trans is using case saver and or also a superior second servo it has been my experience its even more noticeable as well. These might be a few reasons for what you are experiencing.

That makes sense, I did have the car in regular D when I was noticing it. And yep it's a 700R4. Checked all the torque arm bolts and mount and it's all tight. I haven't driven it again but I got underneath and there's no play in the driveshaft so I think the joints are still good too.
Maybe it's nothing to worry about like you said. That would be great
