It seems to me that there should be an arming switch somewhere as a safety. A single switch just seems to be an accident waiting to happen.

That is why I asked. I can see me bumping that button at any given moment. I will most likely wire in a Kill switch just to keep me honest. Besides, who isn't going to push that button pretending to be a jet fighter pilot driving down the road?

That button on the B&M looks a lot more apt to be engaged by accident than the one on my Cheetah shifter. Furthermore, just "bumping" the button for a split second won't do anything. You have to deliberately press it down. A light, split second "tap" when brushing it or bumping it by accident will not do anything. The button on the Cheetah is not on the top handle like on the B&M, so no reason to hit it while changing gears. I've had the car for 3 months now and it's not an issue in the slightest.

A lot of it is personal parts choice but you will need:

1 tranny
2 correct weighted flex platefor LT1 if you have lt1
3 flex plate bolts
4 Torque Converter
5 torque converter bolts
6 crossmember and torque Arm replicator
7 driveshaft and yoke
8 trans cooler and lines
9 possible tune
10 Shifter

So far that's all I've needed but I'm not done

Not yet. Had to take a week off. Will test fit the TC next week.

I hope to release a pinion angle article as well in the next two weeks. I need to do some sketches.

Lots of side stories that need documenting before going further.

The side stories and quests detract from the main objective.

Sometimes being distracted only takes a three year old.

Shims are in and I am working on getting the next page up and published.

The transmission is in and the convertor is installed. The page is up and ready for review. Find any mistakes please let me know.

I also documented the maximum hole depths for transmission bell housing bolts.

Starter is back in. Now to run down the correct trans mount for this installation.

FYI: I have the BMR transmission conversion cross member T56 --> TH400.

Finding a transmission mount locally has been all but impossible. I have ordered one from Madman and it should be here by Friday at the latest.

Catch up here

Transmission mount arrived! Thanks to Madman for the hookup after many failed attempts locally to get the correct mount. BMR cross member is in and the transmission jack has been pushed aside.

A 2.8/3.1 degree down angle was measured off the newly inserted Mark Williams tail shaft. The car was on a 0.2 degree down angle.

Factory LS1 spec is 2.6 - 2.9 down if I am not mistaken.

Updates coming soon.

Everything is documented to this point in the installation. We have to go over the above before we publish that page but it won't be long. :-)

Check out the progress pages here.

Why did you purchase the crossmember, I thought if you were running a 4" tail shaft the stock t-56 member would work. I'm researching an auto swap myself and this was the impression I was under.

That may indeed be the case but I do not know for sure. I knew for sure that if I purchased the BMR conversion crossmember it would work without question.

Maybe someone else can weigh in on this. It is probably covered in a sticky. I wonder if that is the case for the 350 but not the 400??

A location for the trans cooler has been determined.

The upper and lower plastic shroud under the air lid has been removed to make room for the trans cooler. Should have progress to report soon with the mounting.

If all goes well, a kit may be offered to simplify this process for everyone else wanting to do this.
