Need more info on the combo but a Powerglide, TH400, or 4L80E are going to be your best options if you are making the power you should with the S480 and 6.0L.

Do you spend any time on the freeways. I love my 4L80E, the best part is cruising on the highway on a trip at 80mph.

Are you going to drive the car? Or track only?

id like to drive it to the track but also race it a lot!!! the 4L80e can be strong enough for that? i hear some bad things about it. What would be a better deal? the build is going to be a somewhat stock lq4 to start. Just a cam and some arp bolts and studs the next motor is getting built up. But stock"ish" lq4 roughly 700hp to the wheels on e85 if not more..........next motor 1000hp

Yes....80E can be built strong enough. The Ohio Boys have been in the 7's in the 1/4 with a well built 80E. With the Billet overdrive planetary coming out, it will be even stouter (current limit is probably 1500hp).

4l80e all the way. When I go home to Chicopee we can line em up and do a few pulls. S480 vs S480 lol

We've seen 1375 RWHP through a 4L80E without issue. It has to be done by someone who knows what they are doing.

That particular trans wouldn't live with a RMVB transbrake and also kept breaking billet input shafts. After fixed the motor made 1375 on the dyno and ran out of injector using E85 and twin turbo's.

Then your not going to be able to get a 80e to handle what you need, the converter for it, the crossmember to make it work, the driveshaft, the valvebody to make it work as full manual, or if you have to have it shift itself that's another 500-800 for a controller.

A full swap for the 80e you'd need to handle that power, converter and everything else I mentioned aside from the flexplate, dipstick, vss, shifter etc. will be very close to 5k if not more than that. You MIGHT be able to get all of it used for 3500-4k.

If you want to spend 2k your going to have to get a TH400, PG put some upgraded internals in it that you can afford, find a used converter and driveshaft flexplate etc. and have someone modify your stock crossmember or fabricate one to work.

I disagree, if the OP is truly going to max out an S480 (~1300fwhp), He will be spending 4-5K on transmission/converter/etc, no matter which path he chooses (assuming all new parts).
