Default 4l60e Experts needed.

I need some help in regards to some questions about 4l60e transmission interchangability.

Long story short, I will hopefully be swapping an LT1 into my 1991 Jeep Cherokee. If all goes as I hope, I will be getting the LT1 from a '96 Impala as to utilize the open cooling system and OBD II. However, off topic, if the closed cooling systems of other LT1's can be swapped to an open system, PLEASE let me know.

Anyways, I know the stock auto behind the LT1 was the 4l60e, which was once the 700r4 and then the 4l60 and then with electronics the 4l60e. Here's the kicker to my swap... I need a 6 bolt rear 4l60e, and preferrably from a truck that's ready to be mated to a transfer case without having to swap in a new output shaft. That's not the hard part. I can find 4l60e's from many '97 and '98 Tahoes. I think both year Tahoes had the 6 bolt rear 4x4 4l60e. My question is, will this 4x4 4l60e bolt right up to the LT1 and connect to the existing harness with no issues? I understand 94-95 was a big change in the 4l60e's design, however I am hoping since the engine would be coming from a 96 (or if possible, a 97 F-body) B-body there wouldn't be any issues.

So, cliff notes, would a 97 or 98 4x4 4l60e bolt up to a '96 (or '97) LT1 and wire up with no issues?

If it matters, the NP231 I'll be using is mechanical, with nothing more than a switch that makes contact with the engaged lever to illuminate the 4x4 light. Otherwise, totally mechanical. The VSS mounts on the tail of it as well.

So I got feedback on another forum saying it will bolt up but the electronics are different?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Specifically, what was it that you were told will not work?

They didn't really clarify. They just said the electronics were different. I took what it was worth though since I am drawing a blank myself lol. I just really need the 3 piece setup, and grabbing one from a Tahoe that's already to go for 4x4 saves me about $1000 in tranny work and adapters lol.

Other than the 4x4 output and tailpiece, was there any difference between the same year transmissions?

I haven't read through this thread, but I imagine it will give you some useful info (if you haven't already read it that is).
