Question Has anyone ever ran into this problem?

Recently I installed a Yank SS3600 stall and ran into a slight problem. Every now and then when the converter locks, then unlocks, and then locks again the converter starts to make a loud ratlling noise until you gain a little bit of speed over 40 which is my lockup speed. Sorry if I confused any of ya'll! Any explanations would be great!

Thanks, Colby

Mine rattles as soon as it locks at 38mph and goes away about 42-43mph. Pretty sure its the exhaust at that low speed.

Im not sure. I think it just has to do with the engine being at a different load and it angles the exhaust different making it rattle? Sorry I really dont know. I may try taking off my drive shaft loop and see if it does any different.

I just put in a SS3600 also and at 40mph with little throttle I get some nasty vibrations also. I figure it was because the Yank has a better lockup clutch and the rpms are just right to create the vibrations, speeding up just a little gets rid of it. I also have a performabuilt transmission which gets rid of the partial lockup of the factory converter, not sure if that may add to the vibrations. I have HP Tuners and I'm guessing raising the mph where the converter locks would help a little bit.

I think that could be the problem, when I put my headers on and ship the pcm off to get re-tuned I'll make sure to tell him to bump up the lockup speed. Keep me posted on what happens when you bump up you lockup speed. Thanks for chiming in!

FWIW when the tuner and I were driving on the street to street tune...I asked him about the vibrations and he said it was the exhaust. I didnt discuss anything further with him. So thats just what I assumed it was and added that the different rpms at that speed must angle the exhaust differently. Just an idea you know? Its been like this for 1 year. If im driving behind some slow *** and they just happen to be at 36-43mph then I just throw it in regular drive so it dosent rattle.
