Default Those with Tranny Coolers come on in..

Ok i have a new tranny cooler well thats not the problem, i have a coolant leak from there the old lines used to hook in to. Did yall plug up those holes or did you just leave them alone? Mine is leaking from the bottom one i think, and if yall did plug them up what did you use.

If im understanding this right, your losing coolant out of the trans cooler mounted in the radiator?

There should NOT be any coolant coming out of those ports, only residual ATF. Sounds like its leaking over into the cooler.

Well hmm its kinda hard to tell some parts look purple some look oragny so its hard to tell with the black lines. Im going to give it a few days and if its still leaking out ill have to find out where and fix it. The tranny has its own cooler and nothing is leaking from there, but the old ports on the radiator i do believe are leaking a bit i just dont know wha actually it is. Ive checked the coolant levels and they seem fine, and so does the Tranny fluid.

If I was you I wouldnt be running with just the aftermarket cooler....you should be using your factory cooler in the radiator as well as the aftermarket one.

I left mine open, never had intentions of using it again. If I ever replace the radiator I'll buy an M6 LT1 unit. And no there shouldn't be anything dripping from the empty tank except residual fluid and that should stop after some driving time.

I left mine open as well, just running the aftermarket cooler. But you shouldn't be leaking coolant out of there.

The m6 lt1 rad. is diff from a auto lt1 rad.?

To the OP I left my lines open as well. But before I left them like that I hooked up a air pump and blew out the lines so what was in there wouldnt leak out everywhere while driving.

What do you mean upgraded? Does it have a cooler built in?

I put mine on the inside of my radiator and connected it so when fluids came out of the factory on they would go directly into the trans cooler for some more cooling. I truthfully didn't have any problems. I think changing the plugs for the first time is alot more difficult.Check all your connections and take your time.

This is what I don't understand. I know a lot of people recommend running an aftermarket cooler inline with the factory cooler. But why? Does it have to do with pressures in the fluid by only having an aftermarket cooler? Keeping the temps cooler makes NO SENSE at all, by running it in line. I believe temps around 170-190 are pretty acceptable for trans fluid. Then why on earth would you want to run it to a cooler that is in contact with coolant that is 200+?? When I had my black Camaro SS and went with a stall, I'd see temps around 190 cruising around town with an aftermarket cooler running inline with the factory, and much higher when I got on it. I didn't like that and bypassed the factory cooler. By doing that I'd see 170 temps cruising around and 190-200 after spirited runs. If there's another reason besides keeping temps down for running inline with the factory coolers I'd understand, but thinking it's gonna keep temps down is false.

^^ Always wondered this myself. I bypassed the factory cooler, and haven't had any trouble with it.

Its been said that people who live up north and drive their cars in cold weather should have it hooked up to the stock cooler so trans temps can get up to temp quicker.
Thats all I can tell you.

I live up north and drive mine as long as theres no snow, rain, or to much salt. My cooler is ran by itself (no stock cooler) havent seen any issues yet. I just let it warm up a little before driving.
Coldest iv ever seen my trans temp is 20'sf. Takes a while for it to get up to temp. I wait till its at least 40f before I drive it.
IDK man seems to be fine for me. Screw the stock trans fluid warmer lol
