Default Sonnax shift kit ?

Hello,

I have a dead stock 95 z28 with an A4. Everything works as intended with the transmission. I am going to upgrade the car for more performance with bolt-ons etc. at first. Car has 130K on it.

My friend is a tranny rebuilder who lives 3000 miles away. We are doing some trading and he highly recommends the Sonnax shift kits. So much so that he is making me a very good deal on one. I do trust his opinion, but I like to get a spectrum of ideas before charging ahead.

I am mechanically competent and have built one automatic myself alone a few years ago as well as doing ring and pinions, engine rebuilding etc.

Here are my questions:

Is the Sonnax shift kit something that can be installed with the tranny in the car?

Quality of instructions for guy like me? Or are they non-existent?

Any reasons for or against using this kit? My pal really thinks Sonnax is the best out there and he installs them and really likes the way they work.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you so much, Rob

I have one in my 96 tahoe, very pleased with how it feels. my builder and parts supplier couldnt praise Sonnax enough. i was present for the build and the instructions were very detailed. But with my Valve body we needed a special reamer tool that cost a buttload, so gotta watch out for that.

The sonnax performance kit is a decent kit and I'm sure you will like it.

He and I spoke again this evening. He is going to mail me the reamer tool. He was also quite sure that I should replace the TCC or PCC valve or something like that. I will educate myself before I get into the shift kit stage.

It is a trade thing and we are helping each other out. Not an emergency.

Good to know that Sonnax makes good stuff.

Thank you, ROB
