Talking 27 year stick guy goin auto...4k & up stall guys come in

I have ran a stick for 27 years & LOVE them ,they are ALOT of fun & VERY hard on parts when u leave @ 7 Grand !
Well I am tired of fixin broke stuff .....I drive my car on the street ALOT- PWR TOUR ,Cruises ,Ect.My car is a '72 SS Camaro LS1 H/C[Pat G. Specd] all boltons with 460rwh/420rwtq as of rt now & will increase[125-150 shot] .I am gion to a built 4l65 with 4:11's for the Auto over my 4:56's from the 6spd.
Car is caged ,tied, ect & 3400lbs rt now .I LOVE BIG NASTY Cams & alot of rpm ,setup Now shifts at 6850 & redline is 7200rpm .I am only looking for REAL converter testimonies & not a buch of opinion pissin matches .I have been looking at Yank SS4000,Circle D & now PTC after alot of readin & searches.Yes cost is important but I only want to do this 1 time .I run the 1/4 mainly but do see some 1/8 mile stuff . The Converter MUST live on the street & some long trips .Also ball park pickup of time over the 6 spd setup .....Real world not guesses .Thanks for any help !

I have a SS3600 and have driven a MS4 SS4000 ls1. The SS is a very tight feeling converter for its size. The 4.11s will make it even better

Any of those companies will be able to build you a badass street/strip converter.

I have a 5c circle-d (4600 behind my motor), its loose, but drives great around town. a 3c would be a much better driver and compromise, but I like going fast.

Call Fti and talk to Greg. He has some real good converters for the street and hit hard. The only converter I have ever had that pulls real hard up top too. I would deffinaty go with 3.73 for long trips.

illl say this i have a 3600 in my SS and never drove or been in an auto with a big stall. it was definatley a odd feeling driving it for the first time in town.
it does take some getting used to thats for damn sure. but its not bad at all once you get used to cruising around at a higher rpm all the time. lol

but all that being said i definatley like the way the converter feels when you punch it and locks up. ***** to the wall. to me it feels like my a4 hits harder then a similar modded m6 car.

OP with all the racing it looks like you do im sure track #s are important so ss4000 would be great for you. As a matter of fact if I drove a stick for 27 years I would probably go with a yank PT4000. Its suposed to be more efficient up top but gives the same 60' at the track as ss series.

I run a ss3600 and its perfect street/strip. Its 96% efficient. I drove it for 15k miles bolt on stock internal and broke into 11s with it. My car is currently in the shop getting heads, cam, intake, 3.73 and a few smaller bolt ons.

I recommend yank obviously because I use them and they work. ss3600, ss4000, or pt4000.

Track times,60 ' ect are VERY important as this is why the change .I have ran Autos with 2800 -3500 stalls & are familiar with them . I am ready to go faster without all the broken parts & lack of consistancy from the stick.
How is Chris [1313] runnin 4:10's & not runnin out of gear but turnin LOW 10's with a best of 9.89 in the 1/4 ? Last Thur. @ the track I DESTROYED my Richmond 4:56's [7 K launches are HARD on parts] & I have a new set of 4:11's so they are goin in for now .
My shop specializes in LSX conversions & I have several cars with A4's runnin 4'11s with a built 4l60e ,3500 stall & all pull 23mpg at 70 mph.None of these cars are racing as they are just toys so there converters are not as serious as what I am looking for .My most recent was a '72 Nova 346,RHS 205 hds,Fast 102/102,1 7/8 LT's with 3" Exhaust ,Vindicator Cam with a Yank SS 3600 & he wishes he had gone bigger[SS4000 ].No track times yet as we are just about done chasing all the bugs out.
I do not think anything below 4K will do the trick. My cam is 627" lift on the high side & pulls real hard all the way to it's shift point of 6800rpm.Most likely I will spray a 100- 150 shot after we see what can be had out of the motor setup .10.00 's are the goal .No Testimonies of PTC ?
THANKS for all the input , I will update with all the results after the swap is done.
Anybody have any track time differences goin from a 6spd to an A4 ....no other changes please .

Yep from the vibe I get from you...I would do a PT series.
Youll have to search on the auto vs manual track times. I bet the best times are pretty close with the exception that the auto is much more consistant. Also a plus that you shouldnt break so much stuff like you said lol

PT won't like the spray. But I'd pick Dave @ Yank's brain to hear his thoughts.

I'd have no problem running a PTC converter, I've heard nothing but good things and one buddy I know is running one and its doing great.

Yea I was going to say PT as well until I saw he uses spray. I'm on the fence about spray so I think I might just restall my SS3600 as a PT4000-4400...

I wouldnt go any smaller than a 4000 stall. That includes daily driving one. Go with a circle D 5C 4000-4200. AMAZING!!!

ss4000 since youll be using n2o. if not either the pt4000 or even 4400 since youll have a steeper gear with the 4.11's. along with a few other guys in this thread i have an ss3600 and its a great converter, feels tight for what it is and i could easily drive a 4000 stall.

I used a TCI street fighter that was re-stalled to 4500. I didnt mind driving it every day, but my neighbors hated me with a 3" x pipe, XR-1's and a 239/247 .624 .624.

If i didnt have to drive it every day id go with an SS4000.

Ive always thought low gears were a waste of torque with a high stall. I like my current setup for a DD, but it felt the best with 3.42's and a 4500.

PTC, unless you switch to a Neal Chance you won't run another brand converter again.

They will build a nitrous converter that will still get you what you're wanting on motor.
