You can run a 4600 with nitrous.. All depends on if it was built for it or not.

I wouldn't run some off the shelf 4000+ on a good size shot though.

The reason I am leaning toward a 4L65 is I already have it to build. How much difference is there between a 4L65 & a 4L80 ......size.... weight.......Performance ....60'......ET ....ect. Are the plugs on the trans the same ? How about the gear ratios,I have read to expect a 4 tenths quicker times .
Again I am looking for real results .THANKS again for all the input as I am still struggling with my stick addiction ......

I'm geting ready to pull the 6 speed out of mine also and running a 4l65,same deal tired of dealing with broken ****.51 and never raced an auto should be interesting. I'll be using a FTI 3800 with 411's 28" tire should go thru the traps at 6800 rpm. I'll be keeping all the T56 stuff just in case !

Dont expect to break less often. 60/65's are hard to build reliably. 80's are bullet proof, but theyre heavy and suck a lot of power. I wouldnt use an 80 unless im making 600+ rw

Yank PY3600 Converter... Built to stall to 5k....and it does..
the PY series is made for nitrous and you wont blow thru it till you get into a much larger shot than most people even knew was possible.

spraying 350 right now, and it still stalls to 5k every time

I daily drive the car on the street(on nice days when the weather cooperates..LOL)
Ford 9" Rear with a Locker and 3.50 gears...

Great on the Highway, Lock up around 50mph
6 gears in my TCI 6x and overdrive is a 0.75 gear.

I am confused ....if there are 4l60's ruinnin hi 8's by RPM then it can be done ....it just depends on the builder .
I have JUST got my car back on the road with my backup 4:11's & she sure is ALOT of FUN ! I am with the other guy....I will have to keep my 6spd setup & build an auto with a stall ,it will be 4000 to 4400 range .That is why I posted to see who is ACTUALLY running these converters on the street.Ye I understand this is alot on the street but my first cam was a MS3 [603/609 lift] & the one in it now is a custome spec by Pat G. & it is even bigger . I drive the car ALOT & this does not bother me as it does many who say those cams are not streetable as the bigger stalls .
I put 20,000 miles on my car the first 4 yrs it was built.....3 PWR Tours ,3 Street Machine Nats[5 hrs to & from ] lots of local cruises NO TRAILERS !
Again THANKS for all the input ! ! !

Chris1313 converter is the best of both worlds ,leaves hard 1.27 60ft and is the most effecient top end 134 mph,7200 rpm. He is running the correct valvetrain to rev this high. The ss4000 is about the best out there. Im his dad ,we have tried several converters and the ss4000 has always gone back in.

I ran and Ms4 and 4440 VIG for 2 years, 15K miles total... True DD.

Last setup was a 4000 PTC and 226 cam... DD for a while.
Now it is a 4000 (with the added power probably closer to 4400) PTC and a 370.. Weekend toy.

4l60 is dependable.. But even built correctly (mine is) I still don't trust them on a decent motor with a nice shot on them. I will be hitting mine with a 200-300 hit depending on the night and I won't trust it to not strand me an hour from home at the drag strip.
4l80 if you want no worries, they are a descendant of the 400s IIRC.

I have run a Circle D 4C+ and a 2C, and both of them performed well on motor and the spray. As far as streetability your tuner will lock it at 45-49 MPH so it will cruise fine on long road trips. Go big..

Im in a heads/cam/3.73 Daily driven WS.6, and youll absolutley LOVE a big stalled auto!!! Someone gets stupid on the street, just mash the gas, and hope your tires hold! No wasted time downshifting, and your gone!

I LOVE my SS3600, but when I can afford the down time with the car, I want to restall to a 4k again. Ive had an Edge 4k, as well as a Performabuilt 4k, but I let Dave at Yank talk me in to an SS3600, and its been a GREAT piece! Fun as hell to drive, and my 315 Nitto 555s dont stand a chance from a low roll!

BTW, i have the best of both worlds. Cammed 6 speed, and stalled auto!

You need a 4k minimum with that big of a cam IMO.

Oh I know. I think I'm just gonna swap to a smaller cam..I only got the MS3 because I got it as a packaged deal...

I want something in the 228-234 range...like the El Torro or F13 etc...this cam takes too long too come on...

But it is better than bolt ons lol. The good thing is it hooks no problem from a dig due to it having no low end lol

I have a SS4000 I daily drove for a few years behind a head/cam engine. never had it at the track with sticky tires, but it ran great on the street. I also drove it from LA, CA to Savannah, GA during my move and it drove great on the highway. Now with it behind my 390 makin about 500 rwhp it will spin drag radials on the street for about 50' then hook n book...

As for the trans choices, just think at the 4L60 as a TH350 and the 4L80 as a TH400... Im personally gonna run a 4L80 for the peace of mind that it will be hard to break

4L80 is worth running if you're going to be running big hp. Sub 600 a 4L60 would be fine whn built by someone such as FLT or similar
