Had a guy build a 4L80 for my race car with a TransGo 4L80-3 kit for full manual.

Everything seems to work fine and shift right except for the second gear compression braking. There is none.

TransGo wasn't much help. Trans guy can't think of anything that would cause it right off hand.

Any insight?

What parts are in use when in 2nd gear?

Shifts into 2nd and pulls just as quick and hard as any other gear but when you let off the throttle the engine goes to idle even if you're coasting at 60 mph.


In other words, thread bump.

Did he install the intermediate band? Leaving this out is common in racing transmissions.

He either omitted the band, used the wrong band, or made a mistake on the intermediate servo assy.

My bet is that he used a late model wide band and an early style servo pin
