Ok guys ive had terrible luck with this junk 4l60e transmission. It started back in january when i lost 3&OD. I got it rebuilt using an upgrade kit from pro-built automatics adding a 3600 stall and transmission cooler. Three months later i lost 3&OD again. (not daily drivin) Well i DO NOT want to continue running this transmission anymore and my question for advise is what transmission do YOU think i should run being weekend driver and highway driven. Alot of people tell me my cheapest strong way out would be a th350/400 but i kind of want to keep my OD for the highway. Would it be worth it? Is there another strong reliable transmission with OD thats fairly priced i could go with? ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys!!

a lot of people think they can rebuild trannys ,its not simple or easy.it take alot of experience and time to do a rebuild a tranny right.a good tranny rebuilder will stand behind their work and help you out.if the guy is a bs artist maybe sue him in small claims court.

I know where you are coming from. Its not easy to just keep pulling out the dead weight 4l60 trans time after time hoping someone will get it right. all the the while knowing it will never hold up to power.
Ive got over 2500 into mine with the many things that have gone wrong with it and thats not including the new B & M Fluid each time. and thats me doing the work time and time again..
Im driving mine now with no useful second gear under power while im having a th400 built....

Obviously your 3/4 clutch failed (again), and this is a weak spot on the 4L60E.
Besides using a quality 3/4 clutch pack (which the upgrade kit may have had), it is also important to raise line pressure with a bigger boost valve and proper tuning, and make sure there is no pressure leakage to the 3/4 clutch. Furthermore, the 3/4 clutch clearance must be set correctly, the 3rd feed hole drilled to match the type of servo. If the engine revs past 6000 rpm, various mods are needed to the input drum and pump. Skip any of these steps, and the 3/4 clutch will fail repeatedly. A "stock" rebuild will NOT address all these issues.
The quality performance builders know all this (and more than me) and address all these issues with the correct combination of parts, mods, clearances and assembly.
In short, you probably have to pay $3K+ for a quality 4L60E, but that is still much less that buying a 4L80E, matching torque converter and mods to make it fit your car.
