I have no idea if mine have the sonnax piece. In OD it downshifts smoothly into every gear. But in D it will downshift very hard 3-2. But still smooth 2-1.

Its a built 700r4.
In the "Drive or OD" thread, WRT states that the 700R4 positively has the overrun clutch applied in D3 for all gears. It seems that the ATSG manual and many mechanics and racers missed this difference in the 4L60.

In summary it appears with a 700R4 that [D3] is the recommended position on the track, but with the 4L60(E) it is [D4], unless this rare Sonnax valve was installed.

So I have been doing it right, when setting it in D (D3) when pushing the truck with WOT...
