Default Mustang LS swap - 4L60E or TH350?

Trying to make a decision on the transmission for my 89 Mustang LS swap. I picked up a complete 5.3L/4L60E pullout. I will be keeping the car EFI. I already picked up a LS1 intake, fuel rails, and injectors. It will be pretty much stock for now, with probably a cam change and maybe some mild head work. Later down the road I will be spraying it, and at some point will probably be building a 6.0 for it.

The car currently has 4.10 gears in it. The car will not be a daily driver, but will be driven on the street quite a bit. It will also be making trips to the track whenever I can get out there.

So my question is.... keep the 4L60E or TH350?

The OD would be nice, but I'm worried about the cost associated with building a 4L60E that will hold up, along with the cost of convertors.

The only real concern with the TH350 is not having the OD. I don't plan to be making any road trips in the car so it might not be a big deal. But the 4.10's are a concern with no OD. The plus is that I can definitely do a built 350 cheaper than a built OD.

Anyway, just wanting to get others opinions on which one they have, or which one they would go with.

I think it depends on how fast you really wanna go.

From my point, the faster you go the more it costs to keep it together. The 60 isn't a strong tranny at all. Some hold together longer than others. The od is bad *** to have for any cruise you go on and i dont think ill ever build another car without it. I'd like to have a fast *** car but it will cost a lot of money to keep a 60 together. So if I'm in the 12s that's good enough for me, for now. So what's your budget and how fast you wanna go is a good question.

Yeah thats my Dilemma. Definitely want to go fast, but will be driving it around as much as I can, so the OD would be nice. I guess I want to have my cake and eat it too lol.

I like the OD but mine has a few parts in it to make it hold up.
So far so good but I only drive on the street and beat on it on the street.
If I could spare it right now I would just build a t350 as a back up.
I know at some point this 60 is gonna give out.
I usually have the 60 in 3rd gear 95% of the time anyways.
Lockup chatters to much. I never really get a chance to utilize the lock up.

I'm going to keep my eye out for a TH350. If I come across a good deal I may go ahead and grab it. I may also list the 4L60E when I get a chance. I need to look around and see what they are selling for. Anyone know?

Stupid question here as I kinda did a search and didn't find the answer , can you use the ford t5 for a swap? If you can what all needs replacing? I'm sure the bell housing but what all else?

I'm sure you could make it work. But no way I would put a T-5 in. They barely hold up to a stock 5.0.

Lol no doubt....
I say either run what you got for the time being till it chokes on you.
Just don't be jacking off the shifter all the time.
Put in "D" and roll with it for a while and see if you like it.
In the mean time save up for a t350 build and converter.
If I'm thinking right I can help you and what to do so that you can reuse your driveshaft and trans crossmember for the t350 swap.

Well to further complicate things lol, I'm leaning towards the Holley EFI system. The HP controls motor only. You have to step up to the dominator which is $600 more to get transmission control.

I'm going to see if I can sell the 4L60E and just pick up a TH350. Any idea what people are getting for the 4L60E transmissions?

What year is your tranny u may sell?
Also, on the t5, what about for a daily driver? No slicks, limited street abuse, just a daily driver? I've seen some t5s take abuse and stay alive? What all is needed or do they even make a kit for a t5?
