Default TC choice, good or bad?

I have decided to go with a TC over 3.42 gears for my next mod. I am thinking of getting a Midwest 3400 w/ 2.0 STR. is this a good choice for a streetable converter? I will not be taking it to the track and it is a daily driver, and I drive it all year long...even in light snow. I also will be keeping my street tires. Am I making the right decision with going for TC over gears?

YES, don't forget a cooler too. I don't know how good Midwest converters are but I had a Yank ST3500 in a daily driver, probably had 10K miles on the verter, no problems. Of course there's no snow here, Ever. I hear TCI and Vig are good too.

BTW, what gears do you have already? If its 3.23s it wouldn't help going to 3.42s anyway.

I'm running the MW3200/2.0 and love it. I drive the car about 100 miles a week and has not given me one problem. I've noticed that there's not too many ppl on here that are running the MW TC's and IMO I think they are an excellent convertor. Put it in and have fun. I've had mine in for about 8 months and still can't keep my foot out of it.

Oh and yes make sure you get a tranny cooler. The tranny will definetly get hotter with that in there and I happen to be selling a B&M 29k GVW tranny cooler. Never been used. $45+shipping if you're interested.

Great choice. I am currently running the same convertor and what a difference it made. Like someone else said, get that tranny cooler.

Enjoy the difference the convertor makes to you car.

I am considering a verter from MW. The price is good - however the low MPH alarms me. A friend of mine has a MW in his car, his ET dropped to the tune of .4, but he didn't even gain a full MPH in the 1/4, gained about 1 MPH in the 1/8. My car traps almost as high as his w/ less mods, but doesn't 60 ft. as well due to my gears/stock TC. By no means is this a flame on MW verters, just a concern. I race from both a dead stop & a roll, so trap speed matters to me just as much as the 60 ft. Anyone running a MW verter feel free to share detailed experiences and results please.

Some may have higher mph, however, mod for mod, my 1/4 time was better...so they can say all they want they trapped at 119 or whatever, but their 60ft and time was less. In addition, where was their torque mgmt set, and many other issues come into play, so its just not about the actual convertor.

Just trying to put some perspective on the topic.

Well when I ran with just lid and catback (stock TC) the best I could pull was a 13.65 @104. Then when I added LT's and TC I went to a 12.76 @107. So I don't know if the LT's helped the trap or if it was the TC or both. But yes I didn't pick up much with at all. But I did however drop almost a full second on my ET and that's more important to me then traps.

Same converter here. The day mine was installed it was raining all day so that sucked. Still i couldn't keep the smile off my face as i drove it back home. It's just so f'in faster then it ever was!!

I have no tuning and no problems running with the MW verter for 6 months or so. TM does show it's ugly head from time to time.

If you're going to mess with the TM....I would suggest removing just 50-75% of it. Deleting all of it could possibly run into some major issues.

be very careful with tm deletion, the 1tenth ya maybe pick up, isn't worth trashing your tranny.

me and my buddy both have the same converter, same mods, same year car, and he deleted the tm and both cars run about the same et..but his tranny is slipping now and mine is not..

so to me it's not worth deleting..
hope this helps

I've had no TQ management in my tuning for almost 30,000 miles now. No problems. Maybe it helps that I have a TCI shift kit. 423 RWHP, btw.
