Default Tips on running/installing my cooler

For starters I am running a b&m 20,500 btu 8"x11" iirc cooler.

1) should I run in line with the stock cooler or will this cooler be sufficient?

2) I don't know of a good place to put this so I will probably have to run a fan on it, fan suggestions if links?

Any pics or tips would be great! Thanks!!

1. run it by itself.

2. on the condenser would be a good place to mount it

I would run it with the stock cooler if it was me. Run the stock cooler first in line then out of the stock cooler to the aftermarket.

The sticky says to run it by itself. Also if the stocker fails, i won't have a coolant trans mix in my motor and trans.

I also have heard to run it with the stocker to achieve a cooler trans temp.

There are more reasons to run it with the stock one than without it. Main reason to do it is a liquid to liquid cooler is 100 times better than liquid to air. Also I dont remember the last time I saw a leaky internal cooler. Not saying it doesnt happen but its not exactly a common issue..

Running it with the stocker will bing the temp up quicker and keep it up not make I cooler.

The only way (mathematcally speaking) that i could see the inclusion of the stock cooler resulting in increased temps vs. not using it is if your precooled trans temp is below the coolant temp which seems pretty unlikely with a 160 tstat. Except at startup of course. My hayden 30kbtu said on the box that it should not be ran standalone. I am running mine through the cooler in a becool radiator and the on to the hayden. Cooler is spaced out off the ac condenser. Which is to say I agree with carlsonauto.

All that said I have no measurements of temps.

That is another benifit^^^^^ Running temps too cold can cause condensation issues. Most GM vehicles have a TCC inhibit at low temps too so if it doesnt get warm it also doesnt lock the converter.. It has also been argued that warmer fluid is thinner thus less drag.. I would be really shocked if the "less drag" was even enough to be measured let alone worth worrying about for that reason.

So keep in line with stock cooler?

Suggestion on mounting place? Use a fan?

And what is the "dope style"...?
Do you have a temp gauge?

I definitely would use the stock cooler, but it will work either way. If you can mount it in a spot that air can flow through it freely a fan is not necessary. In front of the ac condenser is a great spot if it will fit.
