Default TCI effiency 4000-4400

Does anyone with a TCI 4000 or 4400 have any locked vs unlocked dyno numbers? I'm loosing 40 horse now with a yank and I'm thinking about going to a TCI 4400. Also any ideas how this converter would compare to a yank PT4200 or 4400? (similaries/differences) I'd like a PT series but I've already got one Yank with bad effiency, I'd hate to buy another. From what I've heard the Yanks are hit or miss on effiency and quality. I've got a new tranny and I'd hate for the converter to have a problem and trash the tranny.

You lost 40 horses under what a stock converter? Won't get much better no matter what converter you go with. The SS series is one of the most efficient converters out there. Maybe you have a problem with yours. Or you just really don't know what you looking at.

I know exactly what I'm looking at, a piece crap. Yes the SS is losing 40 horse, and thats horrible. I know of lots of guys only loosing 15 horse with 4400 converters. I agree with you that something is wrong, and as much as I'd like a PT series I'm not going to pay big money if there's a chance its going to be the same as this one. I'm just wanting to know what people think of there tci 4000 or 4400's. I know that dyno numbers don't matter, its track times. But I'm not going to take a car to the track with a converter loosing 40 horse and have it blow up and trash a new tranny.

Maybe you should specify 4000-4400 in the subject. Might bring in a couple of those folks.

How about some info on the Tranny??? Is it stock? Any shift kit? Or is it a vendor prepped race 4L60E?

Are you positive she wasn't slipping more when you tried to get it locked up?

Don't assume the converter if your tanny isn't built for the power you are throwing at it. You're in that range now with that converter where you can put some hurt on a stock tranny that has miles on it.

I've got a TCI 4400 going in this week. I will be heading to the track this weekend to Super Chevy and I will also redyno to see where I'm at.

I just installed a TCI prepped Yank PT4000. I will post how it compares to the Yank PT4000 before TCI fixed it.

Ragtop, I don't have anyway to post it but I could email it to you. At the time it was a stock tranny with only a few thousand miles on it from the factory. Tranny is now race prepped with a trans go. Old tranny looked fine when it was taken apart. It made 440 locked and 400 unlocked. Got the car up in 3rd gear, locked the converter waited a second then put the pedal down. If it was the tranny wouldn't it slip even more with the converter locked since your putting more power through it? It doesn't make since that the tranny would only slip with the converter unlocked, with less power going through it.

Just installed the TCI 4400 and dropped 16RW. Not too bad for a 4400 stall. Headed to the track this weekend to get some times!

440 to 400HP is a 91% efficient converter. That
seems pretty good to me, for that kind of stall
speed (4000+). 95% seems to be the ballpark
for low-3000s from what I've been able to find.

I've saw plenty of pt4200 and pt4400 only lose 12-15 horse. The SS series is suppose to be super efficient, for it to loose 40 horse its got problems. Seems like converters with this much loss usually end up going bad. I'm not going to take any chances. Its getting sent in and inspected. It may just come back a 4400!! I want 10's so bad I can taste it.

The SS series is supposed to be efficent, not super efficent. In any case, 9% loss on a 3800 is more than I would have expected. The YTP & SY 3500 are the more efficent converters. The TT2800 3.0 is great too.
