help select trans for build
doing a turbo 5.3 build looking to make 500- 550rwhp on a daily driving basis and 650-700 turned up at the track. cant make up my mind on trans should I just get nice 4l60e from a sponsor or should I just go to th400 or 4l80e.its gong in my 01 formula and i no the th400 wont be as street friendly as the 4l's but for the price of what you can get a good one for is hard to beat even after u add the parts in for the conversion. also from what ive been reading on here a lot of guys with the turbo setups running th400 on street run a lower stall and rear gear and seem to pull off highway speeds at a decent rpm.
any advice please and thank you

700 rwhp is really pushing it with a 4L60E, especially if you are using Nitrous. With the latest performance parts and billet input and output shafts, a 750 HP 4l60E can now be built, but will cost $5000. Therefore, I would suggest a 4L80E which would be much more durable even in near-stock form and be up-gradable to any level you might need in the future.
I suspect a TH400 would be the cheapest solution initially; it would depend upon how much daily driving you do.

thanks for the advice and reply
I seen performabuilt and flt selling something for 700rwhp for about 2100 with out converter I just don't want to be on the edge of a 4l60e and I no everyone has better luck than others and things like cars weight and how hard your launching the car affects life span.
as far as daily driving goes its not my only car that I can drive but I live in Louisville ky and i want something that if i felt like it i could drive it to indy for lsx shoot out and still be able to drive it home

I would be worried of driving a 60e specially if you do a lot of racing. Buying one from a sponsor would be the best choice for you. I do suggest you consider a 80e or TH400, they will last you a loong time and you will be paying a close amount to the built 60e, plus you wont have to be worrying about the 60e going out on you.

How friendly can a th400 be with small stall (3200) with a rear gear of 2.73-3.23 with 28" tall rear tire..I remember seeing Denmah do 60 down highway at 2200 in his fairmont and skinny driving the ltd with a glide down the highway so it seems a good amount of people street them

Smart choice. This is what I'm doing as well. I got a 4L80E locally with 112k for $250, going to do a $500 circle D converter, Jakes manual control and transgo HD2. For $250, I'm going to risk it and just run the trans and see what happens.

I'd recommend calling Chuck at FLT and talk to him. I just stopped buy today and put in an order on a 4L60 for my 93. I've talked to an unimaginable amount of people about his quality of work, And I'm excited to get mine. He does have a little of a wait to get one since he has a bunch on his board right now, but it's definitely worth the phone call.
