4L60E & YANK ss3600 (do i need a tune?)
I'm looking for some advice on where to take my car to get tuned or if a mail order tune is worth it? I'm in san Antonio Texas
I'm I lil low on cash seeing as I have done I bit to my car. I have a stock 98 Formula and I just built my tranny (4L60E) and got a yank ss3600 stall with a huge cooler and put in long tubes with no egr or air, also off road y pipe with an slp loud mouth 1 cat back. im just about done with putting everything back together just waiting on some lil things.
mainly what I want to know is
how will my car drive with the stock tune?
how long can I drive it with the stock tune?
what is the cheapest tune for the time being?
thanks....

Can you drive it untuned? Yes.
Should you drive it untuned? Maybe.
Should you hammer it untuned? No.
If you can't keep your foot off of it I'd strongly suggest getting a tune so you don't risk damaging anything and getting the best of the mods.
Frost mail tune $150

On my car the tuner adjusted shift points and tc lock up after converter install.
I drove mine around for a week after install but converter would randomly unlock, that could get trans. Hot.

so what's the best place someone could recommend to get a dyno tune in Texas?
I don't want to take the chance with all the money iv already spent on the tranny and stall might as well do it right and spend the money

You should have several choices in TX. I mean TSP comes to mind lol. But go to the regionals section for Texas and do a search there, I'm sure the topic has come up. Most full dyno tunes come with a discount on retunes, my dyno tune was $300, follow ups are $150.

Nothing wrong with Pat G. There are lots of great shops in Texas if you ever decide you need a dyno tune. Arguably the most famous LSx based shop(LMR) is only a couple hours away in Houston.
