Default Hitting the rev limiter

Does anyone have an idea why my car keeps hitting the limiter? It doesn't do it all the time, but it does do it frequently. Most of the time it occures during the 2-3 shift. I just installed 1 3/4" Kooks longtubes with a catted y yesterday, but the car was doing it even before they were installed. As you can see from my sig, my mods are mild. The car has never been tuned, but I didn't think it would really need it yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My car will do it on the 1-2 shift, but the only time it has done it the car wasn't at full temp, so maybe because the line pressure is up some due to the trans fluid not being at normal temps. I can't really tell if maybe the trans slipping a bit on the shift or the pressure is up and it's shifting hard enough to break the tires loose on the shift causing it to hit the rev limiter?? I don't really want to test it because I really don't like going WOT untill the fluids are at full temp.

Does it only happen at WOT from either very slow or at a dead stop?

make sure you have enough tranny fluid.

same thing happend to a friend of mine and he ended up being low on fluid. after adding the right amount, runs perfect.

Now that you mention it, yes. Why?

Yeah, checking the fluid level is probably a good place to start, huh. I'll check it tonight and post back. Thanks.

Change your tranny pan to a Tahoe tranny pan, it is slanted forward and keep the fluid available for the pick-up. Your new found power is probably throwing all the fluid to the rear of the pan via inertia. Adding too much fluid can cause foaming. A deep BandM pan may also fix it. This is from experience of myself and others.

Thanks for the tip. Does either of those pans hang any lower than stock and are they both a direct bolt-on replacement? I checked the fluid level and it doesn't look low.

Have you programmed the adaptation time down,
the rev limiter up, the shiftpoint details to match?

The 2-3 is plenty lazy, factory, not much room
from the shiftpoint to the limiter. With a looser
converter your RPMs are there earlier. With
more engine output both of them run up more
quickly than the stock times, points were set up
anticipating.

I haven't done any tuning/programming to it.

When my car did this it was the 3/4 clutchpack, other people on here have found a bad speed sensor to cause the same problem, and 1 person found that overfilling the tranny fixed the problem on his car. Good luck with it.

Cool thanks man. You're from DSR right? Someone also told me to try a MAF with a screen in it, so I'm going to use the one off my wife's 01 Z28.

I agree with the above posts that this problem is often related to fluid level. It was in my case. I added some fluid to mine and the problem went away. Some have said to get a truck pan and it will correct the problem.

Yep I post on DSR sometimes. You only have 5k on it right? If you can't fix it with something simple, take it back to the dealer and have 'em rebuild your tranny. Bolton's shouldn't void your transmission warranty, right?
