Default 4l60 and rear gear choice.

So ive got a car with 350/340 on engine and 492/550 on nitrous. It has a 3200 Vig. tripple disk and currently 3.73's. I looking for some traction help and a little better fuel mileage. If I backed the gear down to a 3.55 or 3.42, how much do you think it will help the wheel spin?

What size tire are you running? If your running a 26" try stepping up to a 28" tall tire.

Im running a 275/40/17, and i would like to keep the same tire size on all 4 cornors.

I have Nitto 275/40/17 drag radials and they simply do not hook as well as MT 15" drag radials. It could just be the taller size, but I suspect a taller sidewall helps a lot too.

Yea I have m/t's, yes I have a 12 bolt, Yea I have a 2000 dolla tranny. I am mearly trying to see if anybody in the same power level has either ran 3.42's or 3.55 in a auto or better yet made the switch from 3.73's to a 3.42 or 3.55

You ask for traction help with giving us limited info on your car and what you are looking to do with it... We give you answers/ideas... And you get upset because it's not what you want to hear... Remember, we are just trying to help.

Are you talking about traction on the street or track? What are you doing with the car? Why are you looking to get better gas milage out of this car?

I appreciate the help, but im not really a spring chicken in this. I enjoy reading the responses but it would be nice to get a snswer to the original question insted of picking my setup apart.

The car is both street raced and track raced. I still make long trips in the car, so it would be good if I could kill too birds with 1 stone. If the gear change wont help the traction issue at all then I wont bother changing it.

I wasn't picking your setup apart, I was more just trying to get an idea of what is going on with it and why you might be having traction issues. I don't think going from a 3.73 to a 3.42 is going to help you much if any. Do you have front and rear drag shocks on the car? I only ask because adding shocks to my setup made a huge difference in weight transfer and traction.

Well, without any power adder 3.42s and, for that
matter, 3.23s never could hook for me. Not even
ET Streets. I think you'll find your help in weight
redistribution / nose weight removal and suspension
more than driveline.
