Default in need of a new built trans and stall combo

well,
it finally happened. the stock tyranny after 130000 miles finally gave out. 3rd and forth are gone. after a 3200 stall and a 76mm turbo beating on it for awhile, the only thing saving it this long was the 2.73 gears and stock ls1 along with not beating it every second I get lol

spun the tires on wet asphalt and hurt something in the trans.

thinking of going with a performabuilt trans with a 3600 yank or vig stall.

what are your guys thoughts?

current layout:

76mm custom rear mounted turbo with stock ls1, 2.73 rear gears tuned to take 10 psi.

future plans:
put a 228 sized cam in it to motivate it a little more. sticking with stockish rear gears to help with spool. might up grade later with 2.75 gears and Moser axles to get those tired stock axles out of there lol
if the stock ls1 goes out, I'll pick out an ls2 to help it out

well i have had my FLT level 4 4L60E with a FTI 3600 stall for the past 4 years. Car has made between 380-430 to the wheels over this time, all motor never any FI or nitrous. never taken to the track. put about 30k miles on it. just recently started having issues with 3rd to 4th gear shifts. thats my experiance.

I think that we can work out a deal for a converter more custom suited to your application for a very reasonable price if that happens to strike your fancy

Sponsor and top-of-the-line builder FLT in NW Chicago is closest too you, only 60 miles away. You can save a lot of shipping charges and get credit for your core if you pick it up yourself. See the post of my recent visit there:

Bearing came off shoulder. Ouch. Keep in mind here you may want a larger diameter converter with the forced induction. It will help your efficiency as the boost comes in. This will be a necessity if you turn up the power in the future.

did not know that. good to know. so maybe a stock sized converter would be better but with a higher stall rating?

I am gonna go with a 3600. I'm still got that nagging feeling I should go 4000 stall lol but I'm not sure yet.

Stock diameter is a bit much. Something in between stock and the 245mm would work better.

alright, I'm not sure what stall I should get. I'm torn between 3600 and 4000. ice been going between yank, vig, edge, and circle d websites.
I was looking at REVMAX and acc boss hogs but I think I'm ready to grow up since I've got a big boy trans now loll the 3200 REVMAX did fine until the trans took it out. the REVMAX 3600 is the same price as some of these better name brand c9nverters so I'm gonna go with that. been leaning on a edge or a yank due to price is a bit friendlier.

so with a built 4l60E (raybestos clutches, trans go shift, beast sun shell)
2.73 gears
5800 rpm shift (tune limited)
295/35/17 tires
stock 98 ls1 give or take external mods
rear mounted t76 .96 turbo 10psi, intercooler and water/meth injected
3700ish curb weight with fatass driver lol
daily drive but track occasionally. mostly highway when daily so lockups good to go
was use to the 3200 stall so if I have to give a little more pedal to go that's not a big deal.

what do ya recommend for a stall? trying to get an idea

With a a 2.73 rear I wouldn't go more than 3200 stall. Turbos make great torque at lower RPM and you therefore don't need a higher stall to get into the power band.
Any plans to change the rear end to something more performance oriented?
Personally I found a 3600 stall with a 3.42 rear a bit loose for street driving, but the 3600 is fine with my new 3.73 rear.

This doesn't matter now, but the trans did not cause that converter failure. 3/4 clutch pack debris won't make the bearing come off the stator. That's an issue with the converter flexing, internal clearance growing and ultimately what you see there.

ah, well can't complain too much. between the price and abuse this converter took, I put a good 20000 miles on it, 10000 of it with a turbo and wide tires loo

was only a matter of time. time for a serious converter now.

I'm thinking I might go with a 3600 vigilante. I'm not sure if I should get the triple disc or just get the single disc. what's the benefit?

will be going with a 224 to 226ish turbo specific range cam later

I've ran a SS3600 in my FLT level 4 since 2009 putting about 4000 miles on it. I'm putting down really close to 700hp to the ground. I just sent it back to Yank since I broke the trans to have it cut and cleaned and restalled. It has a new clutch now and is restalled to the PAS3400. If I were you I would call and talk to Dave at Yank. My level 4 trans is currently being upgraded to level 6 and should have it in the car in a week or two.

see I've been on the fence about these two. I know I want a 3600, I think a 4000 will be a bit much for a street car for now

I'm torn between a Vig or a yank.

A triple disk converter lets you lock it up even with WOT.
I wanted to confirm that it improves track speed and perhaps ET, but I've only gotten to the track once this year and couldn't get the tune right to test it.

I talked to Dave @ Yank about a triple disk converter and he flat out told me I just don't make enough power to warrent it yet. Says about 800rwhp is when he starts telling his customers to go with a triple disk converter.
