Default 4l60 to 4l80 swap questions in a 01 ws6

I know there are threads about this, but I just want to get a little more info on what I'm looking for..

I have a 2001 ws6, that I will be putting a HSP turbo kit in, and I have a few random questions

I've read through THIS THREAD , and a few others, but I am wondering...

1) It seems the earlier 4l80 is the one to go with, as the lines match up better, and seem to be a better trans.. SO what model and year vehicles should I be looking at to get a 4l80, that will work best?

2) what shift kit and rebuild kit seems to be the one to go with?

3) TCI flexplate or stock 4l60

4) Slip Yoke , Im guessing will be based on the answer to the 1st question

5) If I am running a stock long block ls1 ( ls6 intake ) running a 7675 turbo ( or similar ) what would be a recommended Stall? - I will be running a circle D single disc

Bump up..

I think the most concerning thing at this point is just finding the right 4l80 so I can get going on that before my turbo kit arrives. And with all the options out there I just want to make sure I'm getting the right one the first time around

If your making new lines for an aftermarket cooler then the trans doesn't really matter. Unless you really want that bolt at 12:00 on the late model ones.

Mine came from a 2004 chevy van. Modifying the lines is easy. Don't let that stop your from getting a transmission. Just pick one and go with it especially if your going to have it gone through.

Most people like the trans go hd shift kit.

Slip yoke is the same as a th400 just make sure you get one that has that ever ujoint you need.

Stall just call a manufacture and have them spec one based on the flywheel you use and your set up. I'm using a stock van converter now but will being going with a triple disc lock up some time soon.

I'm using a stock flex plate with spacer built in. When I switch converters I'll be getting a sfi approved flexplate that unitizes the stock 6 bolts on the 80e. It's just piece of mind.

I can help you with a converter for sure. We can fit whatever flexplate you desire, and as far as stall speed goes, we are extremely confident on the 5.7 turbo setups. Give us a call or email and we can spec something out for you.

I would not run a stock flexplate.

Found a 1995 4l80out of a van for $350. Will pick up Jakes stg 2 rebuilt kit for $750. A local shop is charging me $600 to do the rebuild. And about the same price to install it with a trans cooler. So about $2400 fully rebuild and installed. But I still have to get a converter , crossmember, mount, harness, yoke, etc. So by the time its all said and done, I'll be closing in on $4000+. Boy did I underestimate the cost to build a car :/

I would like to have the trans in before we do the install on the turbo kit, fuel system etc.

Why not just buy one already done from jakes? Ull spend a lot less that 4k and not worry about some shop doing the rebuild .

We have 2 excellent shops in town.. Its not $4k for the trans. Its $4k for the trans, the rebuild kit, labor, installation in the car, harness, cross member, yoke, etc etc. And of course almost $1k of that is in the converter alone.

Also when I go to have my ecu tuned for the 4l80, is there anything the tuner will need to know as far as final drive, or what year it is?
