Default Car slams into drive from park.

Hey fellas. I'm looking to picking up a 2002 Z28 camaro, bone stock. Car has 117k on it but supposedly the 4L60e was rebuilt or replaced at 80k.

When you first start the car and put it into drive it slams pretty hard. All of the other shifts are fine during normal driving and wot. After it's warmed up it doesn't do it as bad.

Fluid is clean and full.

Suggestions?

Could be a loose torque converter, the bolts may have backed out and now when you throw it in drive it takes a second to engage because it has to spin a split second before the bolts stop it..

torque converters have 3 bolts that hold it to the flexplate, if you remove the starter there is an opening to see the flexplate/converter.

put the car in neutral and use a socket to spin the motor over you can check to make sure the torque converter is seated properly and that there isn't slack..

If it's fine, check the shift linkage and make sure every gear is engaging properly.. If it passes all the tests then you most likely have to drop the tranny and have it looked at

If the PCM has any stored codes it could be that the PCM has upped the line pressure to keep the trans from slipping until whatever set the codes is repaired. Scan the PCM for any codes and go from there.

It does sound like high line pressure.
Put a trans pressure gauge on it to see what it is in park/Neutral.
Normal pressure at idle in Park is 50-60 psi when warm, about 15psi higher with a shift kit and 10-15psi higher when cold.

My previous f-body started doing exactly what you described at one point. Put some
trans-x in her and it never happened again. May not have permanently fixed the problem but I had no issues for nearly a year until I sold the car.

I'm picking it up today so I'll be able to dig into it. Thanks for the help so far!

Once the turbo goes on and it blows up I'll be going t56 so I just need it to last that long lol.

If your set on a turbo, don't get a t56.

Get a 4l80e, it will be an easy swap if the car is already an automatic

Good luck with the car

Off topic but I sent you a pod question on a PM the other day.
