Ok, stupid question. I'm in the middle of my t56 to 4l60 swap. Ttanny is all bolted in. Crossmember is out so I am able to let the tranny sag all the way. I can't for the life of me get the dipstick in now. Is there a tip or something I'm missing here lol? Thanks in advance

 

All the camaros ive done the dipstick has to go in the transmission as its going up..pretty sure the dipstick is bolted some where near the head or block try taking that off that should help

 

There is a bolt on the back of the pass head that holds the dipstick on.

 

So there is no way to get it in without pulling the tranny back out?!?! Thank you for the replies

 

Sorry I don' t have link to previous threads on this subject, but with one person working under the car and one under the hood, members have replaced the trans dipstick tube without removing the trans.
Others find it easier to just buy a Lokar flexible dipstick tube.

 

Well if I absolutely can't get it, Is there a better aftermarket dipstick than the lokar? All I ever hear about them is how crappy they are. Thanks again guys

I bought a Lokar "clone" on ebay for $50. Seemed pretty nice to me; it has a metal cable dipstick and not the plastic dipstick that someone else bought on ebay. One complaint about the Lokar (and any clone) is that it takes much longer to fill an empty trans with fluid.

However, I ended up buying a 1/2" electricians conduit bender (about $35 at Lowes) and bending the OEM tube into a slightly different configuration to suit my needs.

I know there are threads here (about 2Y ago) from members replacing the OEM trans tube without unbolting the trans. A bitch but doable.
