PG w/ LS1??
hey gang,
i am tryin to get ready for my swap and i was wondering about powerglides.
what, if anything, do i have to modify or swap over to attach a glide to an LS1?
any difference in the TC?
differences in the flexplate?
sorry if this is a repeat, i tried a few searches, all i seemed to find was a series of debates about if a glide is good in a car.
thanks
tim
ps this is going into a 3rd gen swap car, clearance is not an issue(i have a sawzall, a welder, and a BIG F'ING HAMMER!!

) talk to the tranny specialist over to the right ----> i know yank, TCI, and Pro Tranny have lots of knowledge in the area. PGs are NOT popular at all in Fbodys due to their lack of streetabilit and more importantly, they only run well in cars around 3000 lbs raceweight.
Get a TH400. I have one, and it's streetable to a certain extent. I know a few guys running glides in pro street setup cars, and most of them went back to TH400's. Except for one guy that bought a Lenco....but he has 1700hp. Go figure.
I don't see where he asked anyone IF he should do a PG. He's looking for info on HOW to do a PG. Let's keep the info constructive.
I'll be doing a PG soon. I'll be giving TCI a call and letting them handle the specifics (converter, flexplate, shifter, etc....) I talked with them quite some time back about this and it sounds like they pretty well have it covered to me.

thanks colonel.
my car is gonna be so light that the glide won't be any problem at all. th400/th350 = heavy, i am going for a race weight of under 2900lbs, prolly be closer to 2800 by teh time i am done
add a little bit of gear adn the right stall and i will be golden.
as far as street driving, i am willing to drive anything that i can get past a cop.
thanks again

I just did a Th-400 and if the PG is anything like a 400 you need a converter, flex plate, tranny cross member, custom length drive shaft, U joints, dipstick tube and shifter. I also went with an ultra bell housing and a shield.
Good to know that I am not the only one considering a PG for my Project car, the Camaro Z28 in my sig. Since I will be working as a designer for B&M, (much like the Colonel) this won't be a problem.
Keep the LS1/PG info flowing!
