Default Enough is enough - 4l60e

So as much as I here about the stock 4l60e being trash as much as I've experienced the trash tranny as well, what's it worth swapping it for a 4l80e.

Whats your setup? Maybe you just havent found the right builder or are you running a stock transmission?

Totally agree with 01ssreda4, what is your setup, and what purpose do you use your car for? Mostly street, mostly track, or both?

I can understand how you feel if you have only been behind the wheel of a stock 4L60E, or one that isn't built correctly. There are plenty of 10 second 4L60E cars out there, and some others that run 9s.

Here is one that runs 8s:

Hope this helps you out, and I would pass on the 4L80E.

DD is what I use it with some passes at the track on Friday night and pulls on the highway.

Just I exhaust and lid.

I plan on getting 92mm intake and TB. Also a little bit larger stall

Check out http://www.performabuilt.com/ For $2000 you can get one hell of a 4L60E that will easily handle your needs.

I'd recommend contacting the shop that built that 8 second 4L60e in the video And for the most part every other 4L60e that has gone 8s. We build many different levels of 4L60e for different power levels and uses. Give us a call and we can point you in the right direction.

You're not even near close to needing a 4l80e.

You must be doing something wrong if your 4L60E isn't holding up to that.

Not only is the above example worth noting, but I took a stock unit with 400rwhp through many a roadcourse action without as much as a hint of trouble. And we all know that full on 20 minutes of road racing is exponentially harsher than DDing the car with the occasional pull here and there. And this unit lasted many many many 20 minute sessions.

Get the right build and it will last.

Yes, I'd find a different builder. It's not difficult at all to make a good transmission out a 4L60E, and amazingly enough, it doesn't require huge money, fancy clutches and all that stuff. It just needs to be built correctly...

I love these "my stock 60e is junk should I swap in an 80e in my bolt on car" threads. IMO unless you're putting down a lot of power there's no need for an 80e. Any decent trans builder can make a 60e last at your power level.
