I bought a GM connect and cruise set-up......LSA / 4L85E set-up......Got everything installed and when installing the harness plug to the trans.....the plug receptacle in the trans was loose and inside the trans plug couldn't be pushed on........it appears to me that it wasn't installed correctly at the time of assembly........it seems that there are snap hooks to retain the plug in position........I can feel that that there is a rotational locator between the plug and the case......it is rotated correctly and I just can't get it to pull out far enough to snap into place.........Is there some trick or special tool to get this to snap into place........The trans is in the car and full of fluid

Made this tool at the shop today........split plates to clamp around the fitting and a couple of screws for pull handles.........Hope it works......I'll find out later......

LOL......Gotta cut it down as it is too large to fit in position............

 

It got bumped against something & got pushed into the case, Drop the pan, And make sure all 4 "Latches" are there, Lube the O-ring with ATF/TransJel/Vasoline & reseat the connector. If one or more "Latches" are broke....Replace the Harness.

Rostra makes replacements for around $40, Yours takes the '04 & up Harness.

Sonnax makes a Bracket that bolts on top of the parking pawl bracket that holds the connector in place....But as cheap as harnesses are....

The chances of you damaging the connector are high trying to Pull the connector through....Then to find out its broke.... But your harness is new & the plastic "latches" are still pliable so you might get lucky.

 

Here you can see how it's located. If I recall correctly this connector takes a fair amount of pressure to push into it's fully seated position. You might be able to pull it in place but if all of the tabs don't lock it might be an issue.

A little trick I just learned draining my 4L80. Buy a cheap pressure sprayer at Home Depot for 10 bucks. Drain the fluid into it and pump it up to refill. I wish I knew about it years ago and make a trans drain and refill much less profane.

Got it.........Made a plug that slip fit with the I.D. of the receptacle and tightened the outside blocks......got everything tight ........pulled and it still didn't want to go.......applied little pressure with a screwdriver and I felt the "O" ring compress and it slid into place and the tabs opened up and locked the plug in place..........I tried buying a new harness earlier but got put on hold ..........and hung up.........Saved some $$$$....

In retrospect I probably made a mountain out of a Molehill........I probably could have pulled the plug out using pliers......but I just didn't want to break anything..........Typical me...make things more difficult than they need to be.......

Now you can sell that tool. I had to pull off my pan for the same reason.

 

If anyone has the same issue.......I will send it out to make the job easier......No Problem.............
