Default Why is 3rd gear so long?

I have a 2000ss and when i floor it in 3rd gear the car seems really slow, is that normal and will a torque converter and a shift kit help that? My friends camaro z28 with just a lid and filter seems more responsive and faster than my car and i have headers and lid k&n and gmmg exhaust.

Maybe your kickdown settings need work.

For example, in my stock tables the 3-2
kickdown will not happen below 94% throttle,
above 66MPH (WOT will kick it down below
86MPH). If you had some cable slack or a
bump stop problem that kept your "WOT"
TPS reading below 94% you might not get
a "proper" kickdown at all, or only with the
bare last 1/4" of pedal. Bleh.

Those numbers are for a 3.23 car, a 2.73
would be even more doggy in 3rd w/o
downshift, I reckon.

A stock converter + stock gears = a long boring 3rd gear when you punch it from certain speeds (just above the programmed kick down MPH.) A converter will do absolute wonders to fix this. Tweaking the kickdown programming can help a bit too.

A converter will help. I also set my downshifts @ 80 instead of 72
