Is there a way I can install this in the pan without welding a bung?

Can I use a nut on the inside and somekind of washers to prevent it from leaking? I heard crushing washer or fiber washers may work.

 

This is the one I have. Drilled a hole in the side of my pan. Used red thread lock on the inside nut and the plastic washer goes on the outside of the pan.

I use this to drain fluid and for my transmission temp sensor port

Okay I think that is similar to what came with my gauge. It has two adapters with holes that the sending unit fits in. I guess I could take the sending unit out to drain the fluid. Here are a couple pics.








The 3rd pic is with the sending unit is in the adapter. It doesn't stick out all the way out the bottom, wasn't sure if that was a problem. If this will work I guess I just need a nut for the inside and a plastic washer for the outside?

Yes sir. Your local auto parts store will carry the plastic washers you need. Usually in a pack of 5 like shown below. Also red thread lock that inside nut

 

Also, you probably will never really have to remove it once installed but if you ever do always use a new plastic gasket/washer

I prefer to see it on the return line (top line). That way you get "real world" (instantaneous) readings, not delayed as in the pan or case.
