Th400 build thread.

Th400 build thread.
For those wondering why I'm making a build thread just for a transmission, it's just to keep from making a bunch of threads for the many questions I will likely have over the next week or two. Now with that out of the way, I was talking with a guy about various parts I would need and was told that when you start making a little power...you have to use a reverse manual valvebody. The reason I was given was, the factory valvebody will not generate the line pressure needed to keep the clutches alive under high torque/hp loads. While that did make sense, I don't know enough about transmissions to say yay or nay. I just wanted to verify from a non commissioned source.

If you mean transmission setup, I'm not exactly sure yet. I'm trying to avoid the manual valvebody. But I'm not sure if it will live with a standard one. Im really not interested in shifting all the time, so I'm hoping I can just use a good shift kit and be done with it. If you mean car as a whole, it's a 2000ss turbo car....makes 770/900.

Just my opinion, but I believe your car is good for a mid 9 and beyond without so much as pulling a valve cover....with just a 400 swap. If I remember correctly, you are already putting down mid 800s right now right?

For what it's worth, and I witnessed this with my own eyes. I met a guy with a car like ours...2000 f body, was slow just like ours for the power it makes. Told me the best he could do with the 6 speed was 10.80 @137. Simply installing the 400 with no other mods to the car......9.13 @149. Putting down continuous power for the full 1320 pays off....

So, the first in a series of boxes was found at my doorstep just now. I'm all about customer service, but they got this to me FREAKISHLY fast. Just ordered the shifter, cooler....and Transbrake. Flywheel was ordered as well.

So no one is going to listen to me anyway, thats usually how it works.
Why did you buy that sprag? I'd bet a few hundred that your core trans has a roller clutch and you need a drum which you could buy off ebay for about the same price. If you buy a performance direct drum it's going to have a sprag and race.
The TCI kit, has bushings.....TWO the pump and tail housing.
I'd also bet money you could reuse your steels.
I payed a non sponsor $204 for Raybestos frictions, moulded pistons, gasket and sealing ring kit, transgo high temp ring kit, bushings (all of them), washers, filter. All name brand. AND FOR A 2006 4L80E!
Your TCI kit is a refresh kit, no internal bushings, no washers, no torrington bearings, etc.
Not trying to be a dick but someone has to speak the truth and not get all excited over pictures of boxes and parts you don't even need.
