Glad that Jays is willing to help and pull his own hair out (which I am running short of).
Everything he says is exactly correct, especially that it is nearly impossible for a 4L60E to start in 1st with the harness disconnected. The idea that it is starting in 3rd and slipping badly didn't occur to me but is a plausible possibility.
Else both shift solenoids are somehow stuck in the ON position.

im going to do some checking around but i think at this point its beyond my level of knowledge to try an fix myself as much as i hate to admit it.
im going to fiddle with it till mid-next week then ill take it to a shop and let them scan it since they know what they're doing/feeling

update:
ok so i pittled around with the wiring a bit figuring out a misfire, decided to take it for a spin to se what it would do and it finally shifted once i hit around 35(i dont think this had anything to do with the wiring as i only dealt with coil power)
so it seems like i have 1st and 3rd it took some feathering of the throttle to get it to shift at all
where should i go from here?

@cleenrob I know it's an old thread but my 4l60e is doing exactly the same thing you mentioned here. Did you ever solve the problem??

First gear and Third gear ONLY (WithOUT Reverse, Second gear, and Fourth gear).
Then most likely; the unit may have a failed reaction sun-shell/ sun-gear...
This is one of the most Googled (or other Search-Engine) topics for 4L60E/ THM700-R4 transmissions,
ever since the internet became a common household service back in the early 1990s (Transmissions have been in service since 1982).
