4l60e 1st and reverse only
Everything he says is exactly correct, especially that it is nearly impossible for a 4L60E to start in 1st with the harness disconnected. The idea that it is starting in 3rd and slipping badly didn't occur to me but is a plausible possibility.
Else both shift solenoids are somehow stuck in the ON position.
im going to fiddle with it till mid-next week then ill take it to a shop and let them scan it since they know what they're doing/feeling
ok so i pittled around with the wiring a bit figuring out a misfire, decided to take it for a spin to se what it would do and it finally shifted once i hit around 35(i dont think this had anything to do with the wiring as i only dealt with coil power)
so it seems like i have 1st and 3rd it took some feathering of the throttle to get it to shift at all
where should i go from here?

First gear and Third gear ONLY (WithOUT Reverse, Second gear, and Fourth gear).
Then most likely; the unit may have a failed reaction sun-shell/ sun-gear...
This is one of the most Googled (or other Search-Engine) topics for 4L60E/ THM700-R4 transmissions,
ever since the internet became a common household service back in the early 1990s (Transmissions have been in service since 1982).
