Default 2nd gear lockup

Thinking about locking the converter under WOT towards the top of 2nd. I just barely run out of Rev limit at the end of the 1/8th at about 6-8% converter slip.

I'm thinking locking the converter would help me avoid a 2-3 shift at the end of the track and would also save me from bumping up the Rev limiter any further.

Only really wanting to do this at the track, not every day. Anybody have any ideas on how the best way to go about this is? Also, how "safe" is this?

Who's converter is this?
If it's a single disc, forget it.

I do it but I have a CircleD triple disk.
I try to remember to post a pic of my TCC tune table for this.

I have a 3500 stall converter with 11" turbine and a 12" lockup clutch. It's extra wide (30%) more area than a normal 12". It's also a carbon clutch with shift kit do deliver more pressure.

It's no triple disc, but it's better than a stocker for sure. You're saying it will get chewed up and spit out?

If the converter can handle it might get you where you want to be but as mentioned contact manufacturer but one important note make sure it does not make a shift at WOT locked this causes massive trans and drive train impact and increases odds of damage to trans .

Absolutely! Lock up shifts are a definite no-no. I will call them and see what they say.

The converter I have is similar to the c-d 300mm high performance converter as far as clutch surface and apply is concerned if that helps anyone make a recommendation

I think the general consensus is going to be to call the company and get their input. They built it and did all of the development testing on it. They will know exactly what it can (and cannot) handle.

That's fair. For the 2nd question, what's the best way to do it? Can I just put it on a switch? That way I only lockup the clutch on those select rare occasions I want to?

Well, I talked to the builder...It won't last! Sounds like if I should look to my gearing before I lock this thing up and wipe out the clutch.

Any gear recommendations for the 1/8th?

I suppose I should add I'm on a 25.6" tall tire, stock 3.23 rear gears, 4l60e. 3550 race weight bolts on only

I don't think gearing has anything to do with it.
I have 4.30's and Brian and Chris said no way with their single!

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant since I can't lock the converter, I'm going to change gearing instead. Leave the converter I have and change rear gears to get what I need. Probably go with a steeper gear and make a 2-3 shift early enough to make use of it
