By the looks of "the transmission section", if I was inquiring about a 4L60e....I would be golden.

Yes the 400 direct piston will fit, at least it did in my 2004 4l80

With the 400 piston in there it had enough room for 6 clutch plates instead of 5 with the bonded piston

Trying to decide if Im going that route or not. I've seen it stated that a 5 clutch setup will carry the 400 into 4 digit power, and that the 6th clutch will just create extra drag. But at the same time, it's better to go ahead and future proof the tranny now than later. Did you use .77 steels?

I actually ended up with the 400 drum and 36 element sprag in my 4l80E.

Without the waveplate the stock .080 steels fit in the 80E drum

it's not the stock drum, it's an aftermarket drum with 36 element sprag.
