Picking a stall
I guess I should have mentioned that I did a Th400 swap.... and have yet to hook the speedo back up. The car wss moving, it also drives really well around town....even with my 2:73s. You would never know it had a 5200 stall just cruising around.
one thing to always remember. Just like with camshafts, you're WAY better to go a tad too small than a tad too big. Some people recommend big donkey dick camshafts and then you need a big converter to run it and it becomes a "not fun" ride. Been there, done that.
i 've said this in other threads the combo of 3600 stall & 3:73's normal driving runs better / smoother than my 3k stall & 2:73's. basically a stock stall takes 1500 rpm to get going in normal traffic; 3600/ 3:73's takes about 2000 rpm ; and mine takes about 2500 rpm to get going normal traffic speed from a stop. i have no clue what the 4k plus stall takes , most would say 4k & above stall is for mainly racing. i really doubt any shop would recommend a 4k plus for a daily driver. just my one cent.
Ran a 3600 triple disc billet with stock cam and loved it for years. With head cam ran a loose 4000 one and it was okay. Have a Billet triple disc 4000 FTI now and its awesome. I drive car everywhere even Fl to MD trips.
these transmissions have lock up convertors , at low load they lock up 1 to 1 so they drive like stock at low throttle input/cruise speeds even with a high stall
here is a thought... people get a 3600 stall and wish they went bigger and send it in for the free restall to go up on the stall , go the other way and get a 4000 and if you don't like it send it back for the free restall down to 3600 and in the meantime you can get your pb pass at the track while its a 4000!!!

get the opinions from the people doing it , theres plenty that post on here yank and circle d seem to be the ones you see people saying are still tight at low throttle input
Op, as much of an upgrade a torque converter is. And unless you really know your stuff on converters. Don't just pick a stall. Call Dave at Yank. And give him all the specs on your car. Let an expert tell you what you need. Everyone's combo is different. So you cant just throw down a blanket statement, as to which one, without knowing all the info. We run the billet race Yank. Very happy with it. You will love the 60ft and all around performance.
Gentlemen,
I will be upgrading my TC sometime. I spoke with Yank, was recommended 2600 stall, and no more than 3200, if I went higher. Car is an 00 TA, came with OEM EGR, etc.., Volant and flow master cat back.
If you are using a higher stall, 3200 or higher, how are you maintaining traction at WOT from a dig ?
If you are not, then what's the point of that high a stall ?
