Change the filter, Use ONLY OEM Filtran filters. They are available though GM dealers & Isuzu Commercial truck dealers.

"IF" the filter is the issue, One of three things is going on.......
-The filter is clogged with debris....In this case the pan will be full of debris & you need to contact your builder.
-The filter is a aftermarket POS.
-The builder used WAY to much assembly lube or an assembly lube not made for transmission assembly.

"lost all gears" to me means it won't move at all......Is that the case? Or does it not shift?

You can provide more information.

Like "trans just rebuilt" but has no warranty, you could explain how that worked out.

Any trans codes stored in the computer? No gears means NO movement, or it will shift sometimes?

Must be a budget rebuild to not have a warranty. I'd take it back to whoever rebuilt it.

Theres a long list of things that can cause this. I'm not typing it all out.

Did the speed sensor get changed? How about the wiring to it, could also be a wiring problem.

Check the ground wiring.
Are you willing to put a pressure gauge on this?
It really sounds like you're not into screwing with it, might be better to take it to a shop.

Even without power or a ground to the trans shouldn’t the truck at least move in reverse and forward unless there is a mechanical problem?

Yes, when you put the shifter in gear on an 80e and it doesn't have power (neither solenoid is on), it will only have 2nd gear.

Forgot about that.

The last 4L80E I built for a guy at work still had the same problems.
He found out a previous owner hacked up the wiring harness for the entire truck, he replaced it all and had no further problems.

I was 100% sure there was nothing wrong with my build.
