planning on doing a SN95 LS swap. the 4R70 is far better trans then the 4L60. i would have the 4R70 trans already and cost less to build to hold more power and have a trans brake. i rather just swap a bellhousing and call it done since i would have everything for that trans already.

I understand that. But the 4l80e is quite the beefy trans as well. Myself and multiple guys on here could give you simple tips and tricks to build a 750hp unit.

Bolts right up, there are companies that make the trans crossmenber ready to bolt in for an ls with 80e, etc

You could control it with the factory ecu

Lots of positives for going with an 80e

the 4l80 is to big and heavy for my needs but yes it is an opt. the only up side is the ECU but that can be said about the 4l60 as well. if it comes down to it i rather go with the 4l60 since my needs doesnt require a trans such as a 4l80. the car will never see over 500whp. 480whp will most likely be the max. its also not a deicated track car either. i also prefer the 4l60 first gear ratio compared to the 4l80 but the 4l80 and 4r70 almost have the same first gear so that's not really pros and cons type thing. and plus the 4r70 i would already have and all the stuff to bolt it into the car since the car came with it from the factory.

If you're swapping LS I would solidly bet that the driveshaft and trans crossmember will not bolt in with your 4r70.

For 500 HP I think the 4l60e is quite a viable option.

Back to your question at hand tho, instead of totally steering you away from your plan. I'm sorry but I don't know of any company that makes an adapter plate. I would look into a complete bolt on bellhousing from someplace like quick time and see if you can cut the bell off your 4l70 and get it to match up.

drive shaft isnt a problem bc im going with a lightwright unit

i have tryed to talk with a few people but it never goes anywhere. they never reply back or call back or anything. they do make one for a AOD butt from what i was told the bolt pattern is not the same.

Who makes one for the AOD? Are you saying they make an adaptor plate, or they make a full on bellhousing that bolts to the pump?

Someone might have to jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong but...I believe the pump bolt pattern for the AOD/AODE/4r70 are all the same.

So, you should be able to use the bellhousing for the AOD on your 4r70. I would call JW to be sure but If the bolt pattern is the same, I don't see the issue.

You'll just need to keep a close eye on converter spacing and stuff like that.

Aww, that's too bad then. Looks like you might be stuck either being a pioneer for some new parts, or just going with a different transmission. I know you said the 80e is too big and heavy, but I would still consider it if I were you.

If you're only planning on 500HP, then there are plenty of reputable builders that are up to that task with a 4l60e.

There a few mustang engine mid plate manufacturers that also make LS/f-body mid plates that would work. Maybe talk to one of these guys about doing an adapter mid plate?
