Default New converter needed.

Z28 Camaro, Mods are 410 cubic inch 6.0 Motor with stage 3 heads 242/246 114LSA cam, LT's and all bolton's except fast 90mmTH and intake. (On order)
Turbo 400 with brake.
Ran a SLOW *** 7.85@ 92 MPH tonight in the 1/8 mile.
Current converter is a 3200 stall and over 3 years old.
Peak power is at 6400 but makes good power until 7000 RPM's 440 peak

I also have a TA that has a 3600 stall in the 4L60E with stage 1 heads and a 224/226 cam. Same bolton's. Run's 7.4 at 91 in the 1/8 mile with a 1.54 60 ft time. Make a whopping 360 on the same dyno on the same day using the same tuner.
80 Horse less/90 ft lbs of torque less TA is 300 lbs heavier and run's 4 tenths faster in the 1/8 mile. Both cars running full slicks and the same gear ratio.
NO SPINAGE, Dead Hookage.

So I narrowed it down to a POS converter.
Decited I need a new converter. Where should I shoot if staying NA?
I know a BUNCH about converter's and am kinda figuring a 4200 or 4400 stall.
I drive the car about 40 miles a month on the street when it's dark and someone wants to play read my tag.
Other than that it chills at the track.
Anyone have anyother suggestion's?

BTW to those who haven't realized what the right converter can do for a automatic car you have just learned.

1st gear ratio for a T400 is what, 2.4-2.5?? 4L60e is 3.07. I wonder if you need more gear?

A Yank YTP 4000 or 4200 would be perfect for your situation. The 4000 is very efficent and if you plan to shift at 7000 rpm that will be a big factor. It should stall up to around 4200 - 4300 behind a big motor. The 4200 would give you another couple hundred rpms of stall and is almost as efficent. The 4200 might get you another few hundreths on the 60'.

If you're looking for the top of line you can get I'd suggest Coan or Neal Chance.

For whatever reason I am a Yank man. I haven't tried either one of the above converter's however in my 4L60E tranny I have tried 4 types of converter's and the Yank just whoops all their asses.
What would be the benifit of the other converters above a Yank?

I'm not suggesting Yank is bad, but I've been around a lot of 6,7 & 8 second cars over the years that run Outlaw pro street, heavy street and 10.5 classes. Seems most of those guys depend on either of the two companies I mentioned for their converter needs. I just purchased a Coan 8" based on the recommendation of my tranny builder who runs an 8 second altered. He did nothing but change his converter to a Coan and picked up .4 in the 1/4.

Neil Chance and Coan are the top of the line in racing convertors (esp NC) in the world of big motors and old school trannys (TH-35/400/PowerGl). no one makes a better more efficient unit then NC IMHO. go look at drag cars on the national scene. Yank is just getting started in this business compared to them. though Yank has THE convertor in the 4L60e i would personally run the NC. call them up, Marty Chance who runs the business is very personal and extremely knowledgeable and will set you up with a great unit, all custom built to your needs.

Thanks Gator.
I always do my research and have found a number of people who sware by these converter's.
It does seem like Neil Chance is a top of the line converter for the old school stuff.
I HATE YANK's C/S anyways and would LOVE not to have to use them to suit my need's. I was even thinking of TCI just because Yank's C/S is soooooo damn bad. They do build a hell of a verter for a 4L60 however....
Go figure.
Anyways thanks again, and when the new verter gets here I am coming to pay a visit up your way.
I will let you know whan that happens, and maybe we can meet up in bradenton for some shakedown run's.

If you talk to Marty I think you'll be impressed. Both him and Coan build each converter to suit the cars needs. They'll ask you a zillion questions about your setup and build it to your application instead of just pointing to something sitting on a shelf. When I consulted both companies, I was impressed that they both came up with VERY similiar specs. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.

Yep Jeremy (my name as well) does my tuning. We are pretty good friends and he comes to Ft. Myers about once a month to tune the F body's down here.
There is another guy who is popular in the Vette world names Ron Bellue (Last name speellled wrong Im sure)
I just feel more comfortable with Jeremy and know that he will stay up till midnight or later trying to get my car tuned perfectly.
NEWay I will give you a holla when I make the trip to bradenton.
Hoping for somewhere around 23rd.
