By chance did you take any pictures of the 2 side by side. Did you seat the torque converter all the way in the transmission? One thing that is Coming to mind is different input shafts. But if you got a torque converter for the transmission out of the 5.3 you shouldn’t have a problem The transmission should work in that vehicle without a problem provided the torque converter is matched to the transmission

I didnt take pics but after swapping the bellhousing the torque converter that was with the 5.3 wouldnt bolt up to the fly wheel so i used the old one that was in my truck. Yes it was seated all the way .

The converter is most likely your problem.

You need to get a converter with for the new transmission to fit the flywheel that is on the engine

You would be much better served to pull the transmission and torque converter and look at the input shaft splines and find out what torque converter you need to go with it

Did you put fluid in the torque converter before the install

There should be at least a quart of fluid added to converter before install at a minimum to keep from destroying the converter on start up

I'm not sure on this but I don't think the 4.2 and 5.3 torque converters are interchangeable. Someone who knows more about the interchangeability hopeful will chime in. As for adding fluid to the torque converter before install you are fine. If the torque converter is seated in the pump correctly the pump will fill up the converter quickly. Besides if I understand what you have done the converter was used and therefore already had fluid in it.

I am also betting it’s an interchange problem with the torque converter and input shaft

First things first. How much oil did you put in, in total to this setup?

In this particular combination I do not think a spacer will do it .
