What year transmissions interchange 100%?
If I need a new 4L60e or one from a salvage yard, which years interchange electrically (same plugs and pinouts)? For example, if I had a 2002 model originally, would a 2008 one bolt and plug right in?

For example, I’m wanting to go from an AWD 02 Escalade 65e trans to a RWD one and might have found a GTO 65e a few years newer in good shape. Hoping it bolts and plugs in, and all is well.

Most aftermarket transmission controllers for the 4L60E family of transmissions... (4L65E, 4L70E, and 4L75E are all actually 4L60E transmissions with higher vehicle weight ratings) will support any year transmission that uses a "Pressure manifold switch" on the valve-body.
All years from 1993 to 2008 use this system.
The 2009 to 2013/ 2014 transmissions use an "Internal mode switch" and not very many aftermarket transmission controllers support this system.
The TCI/ FAST branded "EZ-TCU" transmission controller is the only product that I know off the top of my head that will support the "I.M.S. system".

He forgot to tell you about the change over to the Internal Mode Switch from the previous Pressure Manifold Switch.
You can take a 2009+ unit and retrofit an earlier valve-body, solenoids/ switches, wiring and PCM if needed.

Would a car 4l65e from a gto have the same size (length, location, pivot arm, etc) gear selector mechanism as a truck 4l65e from an Escalade? I’m likely using a Lokar shifter arm from my old C10s steering column to this transmission, and would want it to reach the gear selector with no problems. I’m not sure if one (truck vs car) would have a more accessible arm for that to grab or if they’re the same/close enough.

There are slightly different versions of these used on different platform/ body vehicles.
However, if your Lokar shifter/ gear selector fitted/ worked with the 4L65E that is currently in the vehicle...
You should not have a problem (if they are different) as you can install the old lever and bracket onto the transmission that you are obtaining.
They may not be different/ or may not be very different... but if they are, use the pieces from the last transmission.

4L60, 4L65, 4L80 are supported. Steer clear of the 4L70 (supported but not simple to set up) and 4L75 (totally different animal in terms of control for some reason. Definitely skip it.)…
The general discussion was that the Terminator will run any of the transmissions, that the year wont matter. That it was more important to match the mechanics to the engine.
The one point I'm still looking in to is the speed sensor,, I am doing a 4x4 and I think,, I'll have better luck with putting the speed sensor ahead of the transfer case. Otherwise I think I'll have ECU issues in 4 wheel low.. Unless I can use a input telling the ECU to change mapping when in low range..

The only 4L60E based transmissions that do not have good aftermarket controller support are the 2009+ units with an Internal Mode Switch.
