So am in the process of swapping my 4L65e to 4l80e
I notice that my trans with internal neutral switch while the 4L80E with external?
what should I do, or I should look for a 4l80e with internal switch? Am not sure if the 4l80e come with internal switch 🤔
i’ll attach a picture , I circled the area in red.
my transmission look exactly the same there is no switch…
There is a switch assembly that bolts on the shifter shaft area on the side of the transmission for some cars..
Or what I did was used a Lokar shifter that has its own switches.
Google this
GM Genuine Parts D2257C Park/Neutral Position and Back-Up Lamp Switch
it may not be the one you need but this is what they various versions look like.

On some vehicles the neutral switch is mounted to the shifter inside the car. The neutral switch is not mounted inside the transmission. Later model transmissions have a mode position switch or range position switch inside the transmission pan, (I think that is what it's called) that communicates to the TCM what range the transmission is in. I don't think it acts as a neutral switch though. I have not looked at a wiring diagram so you will need to check this for yourself if you have one these transmissions.
Yeah... the Internal Mode Switch does take care of the Neutral Safety Function.
A PCM for a NON-Internal Mode Switch 4L60E/ 65E/ 70E or 4L80E will be needed for the Swap.
