Default transmission frustration

I am currently working on a truck project and I cant find any answers that are even close except for here.
I have a 2003 5.3 mated to a 98 4l60 in a four wheel drive suburban.
the speed sensor is from summit.
I had a tuner try to fix it but the transmission doesn't shift correctly.
Does anyone have experience with this and how do I fix it?
I never had the original transmission and the 98 bolts up to the stock adapter.
where can i find accurate pin information?
i found another thread here but it didnt address how to change the pin out to work.

So I think there is a thread that details the compatibility of the 4L6** series. Its been active recently...
From what I remember a 98 would not likely just plug in to a 03 computer,, there are a couple years that are snowflakes in the late 90's.
If you have the factory tail shaft buy a AC/Delco vss from a dealer,, (I have had horrible luck with aftermarket sensors for speed rpm timing. (Not just on the GM stuff...)
You also need to watch out for later transmissions that have a input shaft sensor on the trans.. There is zone where they had it in the later units (I think 2007+)

you gave us the year of the engine and transmission...what year is the truck?
Assuming 2003 to match the engine?

If so, a 1998 trans will work fine electronically in the 2003. No differences

Transmission harnesses should be the same

Is the speed sensor in the transfer case, or is this a 2wd unit with speed sensor in the tail?

One question would be , since he never had original trans was it a 60e at all rather could it have had an 80e , But the 98 4l60e will work correctly with a 2003 computer that was programed for a 4l60e anyway. course no idea what all he started with.

Note to all New Members/ Members who are New to POSTING:

Please, please, please provide at the very least (What we consider to be) the Minimum amount of Details relevant to your THREAD/ POST.
-Vehicle Manufacturer/ Make, Vehicle Model, Vehicle Sub-Model/ Trim-level/ Trim-Package (If possible, example being a Z28 or Super-Sport for a Camaro).
-Original Power-Train/ Drive-Line... Engine, Transmission (front or rear Trans-Axle, Torque-Tube), Transfer-Case, PTO, and Differentials.
-Swapped Power-Train/ Drive-Line... Engine, Transmission (front or rear Trans-Axle, Torque-Tube), Transfer-Case, PTO, and Differentials.
-Aftermarket Parts/ Upgrades to the Power-Train.
-Control Modules used (Original or Aftermarket).
-And finally, specific details that pertain to the Topic or Question of the Thread Posted (Example: Line-Pressure Values, when a Transmission has issues).

I very much dislike making assumptions... Unfortunately, in order to Post here, an Individual often has to do so.

The OP did include more information than many, many other New Members do on a First Post/ Early Posts.

Going off of the OPs User-Name...
I am going to assume that the Vehicle being discussed (By the OP) is a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban 1000-Series (Today comparable to a C/K 1500-Series).
I don't know if it is RWD or 4WD... it could also be a 2000-Series... it could also be a GMC Suburban (The ORIGINAL Suburban).

Going off of My GM Engineering Information Database...
Those Trucks most often were Built with a 5.7L Gen-I SBC Engine and THM700-R4 Transmission (NP-208 Transfer-Case, if 4WD).

...Other options were a 7.4L Gen-V BBC Engine (or Even a 6.2L Detroit-Diesel V8 Engine) and a THM400 Transmission option.

Next we need some specifics that pertain to your Questions...
What type of "Adapter" are you referring to? ...A Gen-III SBC (5.3L) can mate to a 4L60E Built for a Gen-III SBC Engine without any "Adapters".
Maybe you have a 4L60E Built for a Gen-I SBC Engine... That would not be a direct "Bolt On" Swap.

We should not have to work so hard to try and Help you.

What type of "Pin" Information are you looking for?
A Pin that is part of what? ...a Pin that does what?

Thanks.

So true. This is why I didn't post; all one can do is guess as to what the actual issue OP is even having. Does it shift at all, shift only at high rpm, or is it shifting but very hard when it shifts. Is the speed sensor in the trans or transfer case? Does the speedometer work?
