I would take a small grinding wheel and clean up the rough edges and put it back together and run it. You will never tell the deference in the way it runs.

That was my initial thought but then I figured it might be a weak point and possibly cause more damage down the road? Some of the dings in the piston and head are about a 1/16th deep.

Yep, very serious. How long have you been an auto tech?

In Steve Morris' video just last night he said that he would have done the same thing to his race engine piston if he didn't already have a spare piston in hand and the engine halfway apart.
