Default Cant get converter to seat

So I had my 4l65e rebuilt by a local guy with a kit from pro built automatics and he said everything went smoothly. I've had this guy build a few transmissions for me in the past with zero issues. I go to install the transmission and I can't get the converter to seat further than around 5/8. New converter and the original converter have the same problem. I take it back to him, he tears it apart, puts it back together, still the same issue , it won't seat fully. Does anyone happen to have the measurement from the back of the pump to the edge of the shaft? Or any ideas what the heck is going on? Just trying to slowly eliminate possible issues

Thanks

Take the trans and both converters back to your builder and have him see if he can get them to go all of the way in. The pump bushing could be out of square or burred up. I install the bushing in the pump cover and then set it over the converter hub to make sure it is fitted correctly.

I had a batch of FTI inputs where the turbine splines were just a little too large to slide into the converter. If you have access to a turbine hub (and ideally) pump drive hub from a 60e converter you could test your trans to see where the hangup is. you could take the transmission with you to a converter shop and ask for some help. might be worth testing a stock input in your converter too.

Sometimes when you have a new converter and shaft they can be hard to seat been there, But more likely an issue with the bushing . I have a converter hub I place in hub at end of each build and turn pump just to make sure that is not an issue and turn pump by hand with it.

Pump bushing is caddywompis

When the bushing is installed in the pump cover, the cover needs to be checked on a converter hub right then to make sure there isnt any hang ups such as this.

I did figure out the problem, so I pulled a 4l65e and a 6.0 from my parents hummer, a running driving vehicle. Had it rebuilt and bought a edge converter. When I got it back and went to put it on the engine it wouldn't get close enough to mate, measured from converter mounting pad to edge of bellhousing and got a hair over half a inch. Put the stock converter on and got a tad bit more depth but still not around the inch it should be. Took back to the builder twice assured me everything was correct. Got the trans back and went to a buddies who had a 4l60 on his shop floor, install both Converters and have the 1 inch spacing I need. So we are scratching our heads and say we'll let's measure the bellhousing and what do ya know his is half inch deeper. I run the numbers on my bellhousing it's for like a 94-96 transmission. So apparently some time back someone swapped the right transmission with the wrong bellhousing into the hummer and wirh whatever stock converter they used it must have had just enough space for them to mate them together. So I put the right bellhousing on and all is well lol

What's the part number on that old bellhousing?

Thanks for the update; we're all glad you figured it out.

Bell-housing casting 24206579 is for 4.3L/5.0L/5.7L gen 2 engines. 24206952 is for Gen3/4 LS based engines
