New fti sst converter decided to lock its turbine solid for reasons beyond my comprehension.
wasnt doing anything drastic. Drove 3 miles, then wanted to test the stall so put it in 3rd (manual valve body), break stalled it, got some boost built up like 7 psi, let the brakes go and rolled in the throttle.... with street tires that made for a nice smoke show but within second of letting the brakes go, it was game over. Came to a stop, motor stalled out like when you forget to push the clutch on a manual.
converter is out, can confirm i have no turbine rotation in any directions.
Stator moves as it should, smooth (mechanical diode).
sparkles in the fluid out of the converter so looking like a full trans fluid change, new screen and flush out the cooler is in order... yay me... trans has 200 miles and brand new (stage 4 fti).

anyway.... anyone knows why it would do that?

yeah, new one for me... would love to know what went wrong. I'll be calling them monday am for my next step (which I assume will be shipping it back to them).

I called monday am and sent it out ups on my dime that day. I can't recall whom i talked to. As an aerospace engineer i am really interested to know what went. My educated guess would be something like a washer or Torrington bearing not properly hardened from the oem or maybe the tolerances went out after welding.
S happen but that trans is brand new to (200 miles)... one of your stage 4... hope it's ok! (I think it is but will pull pan later this week)

 

Can I offer some extra FTI merch like a couple shirts or a hoodie in exchange for the freight you covered? We'll know if the transmission needs to be looked at after we cut the converter open. Based on my suspicions I think the transmission will be ok. but if it does need attention I will make sure we take care of that for you too since it is one of our transmissions.

Converter is on its way back to me thanks to Dalton who took care of it right away. Could not ask for a quicker turn sound. Literally got it wed afternoon and done today (Thursday).
