Which Stall Is Right For ME?
Which stall converter should I get? I hear TCI is pretty good? I was looking at the 3500 but some think that is too big, and some think it is just right, I dont want to buy it untill I know that people have had success with it on a car simmilarly modded to mine.
This car is my only car, daily driver, but I take it to the track every week and right now I run 8.4 in the 1/8th and 13.0 in the 1/4. I would like to be mid 12's in the 1/4 and 7.999 in the 1/8th eventually. Is this the best mod to do right now?
Mods in sig, 3.73's and BFG's.
Thanks!

I bought a yank 3600 extreme and put it in my car a few months ago. I will soon be replacing it with a 4k or 4.4k stall. Its not near as bad as it seems, I hardly know its there, at least untill I hit the gas. It really depends on your intent with the car, but I wish i would have gone bigger

Don't know where you live but Slowhawk up here in MA has a 4400 stall tuned to lock up at 1,400 rpm around town, whack the gas and it flashes up to 4400 in a split second. Totally streetable, if your local, talk to him.

If you want a pansy car then get the 3500, now if you want something that will knock some decent time off your et and keep pulling all the way get the PT400-4400. I have one and i drive it around town, i love it. I would only take it out to switch to a 4400.

Ok so I think I will go with a 35-3600, but what brand?
Midwest, TCI, Yank?
Any opinions? I have the money for the yank, but if the extra could be spent elsewhere then I would just buy some longtubes or something.

A ~3500 stall should be big enough for you. The TCI SSF 3500 is actually rated at 3500-3800 on our cars, BTW. It will really wake the car up. I pulled 1.72-1.74 60', 8.0X, and 12.6X all day long with 320 rwhp/337 rwtq on mine! And it was about 75*. A bigger stall will help more over the 3500 when you get into things like heads/cam and your powerband goes higher.
On the other hand, I think I could have gone one step higher and ran a ~4k stall and loved it, and a 4k stall will perform better than a 3500.....even on a stock car. Only reason I didn't was the phenomenal price of the SSF and I don't think it would be very good for stop and go driving to go so big, which I will see.
If you had been thinking you wanted a 3500, this board's rule of thumb is to go one step bigger than you think you want. I thought I wanted 3500, and it's great, but I do think if I had gone even BIGGER I would have been okay with it, so maybe that rule is accurate??

Look @ the guy's sig & what he is wanting to do.
"daily driving" mostly!
Bigger is not always better. Use the search option on the 3500 - 4000...
i'll line my car up any day against a 4000 - 4400 " basically stock" car.
My Yank SY3500 coupled with my cam TR220/553/112 & my 323's, drag radials etc.. My car is a lethal "street" machine.
Check into the Yank SY3500. Very efficient, and a great daily driver.
I'd line this "pansy 3500" against that 4000 of yours any day
Hope this helps...... Jusy my .02 FWIW

if you really are that weaksauce,
at least get a SS3600
i had a midwest which dropped me off at 4700rpm during shifts,
and the car would stop pulling and then build up again.
with the yank, it drops me off at 4700rpm still,
but keeps pulling the whole way.
that says something about yanks efficiency.
btw, converters mentioned are midwest 3400/2.0, and yank SS4000/2.6
