Default Repairs on 4L60E worth it?

Just found out my tranny will need at least $400 in repairs. It has ~71k miles on it. Is it really worth it, or should I look for a new one?

What are you considering as an alternative?

You've got around $600 invested in the torque converter, right? That would be no use to you if swapping to a TH400 or 4L80.

If you're looking toward a "crate" trans swap like a new 4L65-E then you'd be able to use your current converter.

Depends on how much you have to spend and what your furture mods are. With no nitrous oxide or forced induction I'd say it's worth it to repair the 4L60-E. During the rebuild spend the extra cash for a shift kit and exotic clutches. With under 400HP those parts you should get another 70K out of it as long as it isn't over-rev'd.

I will be running a 100 wet shot, and my alternatives are buying another used one for about the same price, or a little more.

Is the shop going to warranty it for awhile? Might be worth it. If you get a used one you could run into the same problem. Just my .02

I doubt it. The problem was the torque converter not being seated correctly after my engine swap. Ground out some gear. Forgot what it was called.
