If you look at the OEM QD.. it is a Straight Thread, not Tapered, the correct type of fitting should be 1/4" NPS not NPT.. you should not use a taper thread.. as it will not seat and if you keep tighting it, it well crack the case..

The correct adapter is a 1/4" NPS with a gasket to seat.. But many have used the NPT and it might seal most of the times.

Here's the correct way to do it. I've laid it all out including part numbers.

I ended up getting jegs brand AN lines and hose for my install. I used 6 AN fittings and line, it turned out pretty good.

I got the special 4l60e -6 AN x 1/4 NSPM fitting for the tranny and 6 x 16-1.5mm Inverted Flare AN fittings for the radiator off ebay.

Considering that some of the information in this thread is going back EIGHT YEARS, I just updated a bunch of things. I've long known the threads in the case are 1/4" straight, not tapered and have even seen incidents of folks threading in a NPT fitting and cracking the case from all the spreading force being concentrated on the outer-most thread of the case.
Personally, if I were building a transmission for a custom installation I'd re-thread the ports on the case with a 1/4" NPT tap and lock-tite a pair of inexpensive -6AN fittings into it. The NSPM Fittings are another option that's even easier at additional cost.

Hey CamaroGuy, Why go through the trouble of running AN line just to go into a stock cooler?

It's a 1976 Camaro with a 2004 4L60e tranny....5.3 engine set back a bit....the stock lines were too short, wouldn't have threaded correctly anyways.

I tried several different hard lines (2000 silverado, 1999 S10) and this was a quicker and easier solution

I was just wondering why not plumb the lines straight to an aftermarket cooler?

I wanted to keep it stock and and not have to mess with another part in this system. Don't really have a need for an aftermarket cooler.

Gotcha, well the install looks good, and that's part of the fun.

(The fitting on the lower right is the factory fitting for comparison purposes.)

UPDATE - The AN-6 Male-to-Male adapter with O-Ring fit perfectly into my 2008 4L65E case, -BUT- when I just swapped in a 2001 trans, it did NOT fit. Looks like most 4L60E have 1/4" NPS threads as mentioned above, but 2008+ have a different thread. Lovely.

Or you could use these AN fittings with NPSM thread made specifically for the 4L60E/4L80E trans in either -6 or -8 AN size.

Yes, I am ordering them now.
The fittings are made by Fragola and Summit's part number is: FRA-481670-BL

(Since Summit is out of stock, I am ordering them from an ebay seller.)

Not sure what was up with my car, just finished this install. The 16-1.5mm Inverted Flare was considerably larger than my 2002 Camaro Radiator fittings. I used a Russell Part 640330 Adapter Inv Flr, straight, -6 (1/2" -20), it threaded in perfectly to the radiator.

Thanks for the tips!
