Default converter is unlocking

I was driving down the interstate with the cruise set, and my conveter just unlocks for no reason. What would cause it to unlock for long periods of time? It has been doing this alot lately

Misfires above a certain level will force converter unlock.
They may be actual misfire or just enhanced detection
of engine jerk, from a lighter-weight converter. You
would want tuning to raise the misfire thresholds, if
logging shows no actual cause (look at the current
misfires values at cruise when this goes on, for any
one cylinder that stands out from the rest).

Could a bad O2 sensor play any role in this?

I doubt if an O2 sensor is causing your problem, it would be turning on the light well before it would effect TCC. You need to find out if it is being commanded off by the PCM or if it's internal to the trans (such as the solenoid not holding or internal harness having a problem). I agree with jimmyblue about the misfires. You need to watch for a jumpy or inconsistant vehicle speed signal too, if you have a little extension bushing wear and subsequent vibration it could unlatch the converter.

i don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but about 2 weeks ago a friend of mine scanned my car with his predator and got bank 2 misfire, and it was saying the O2 sensor wasn't working well most of the time and not working some, so i changed it. But it was also saying that my egr wasn't working correctly, about once a month, it will just open up at idle and almost kill it. Does that have anything to do with it? My SES light doesn't go off any more, it stays on. Also i have had this converter now for like 4 or 5 months and it is just now doing it.
