As it turns out, it looks like the TCI converter was out of balance, caused a vibration that eventually caused the tranny to go bad. He has been driving it now for the last two months with the Yank 3600 and his temp stays in the 135 to 150 rage. He said it is like a new car.

jimmyblue: no all he did was change the the filter and fluid and almost immediately the problem was corrected. when the problem started it was only about 4000 miles after the TC install. maybe it was the change of the filter and fluid or just plain coincidence, but i was happy it just cost me the price of a tranny service instead of having to go through the headache of getting the TC replaced

Well, I guess that just moved up my list of things to
get around to... hope I'll have the same luck. Thanks.

I sawped in a built 700r4 with a manual valve body, TCI non locking converter. I did a 1/2 hr run bumping between 80-110, and lost 3 and 4 the same way. I figure since second can still wind up to 6k, the clutch packs are shot above 2nd. I thought I got too hot and fried them.

This might be the converter?

Just tossing mine in as it removes all the tuning stuff, but is a similar converter with similar miles.

tci called today. they said the clutches were gone. they had no explaination for it....said they didnt see any signs of heat in the converter...must have been a fluke they said. Nice guys to deal with at tci. fixed it for free and ill have it back by the weekend so i can hurry up and install it and then wait for winter to be over

I don't think it was a fluke. My TCI burned up and fried my tranny along with it.
